Am I Ivy Material? (And Stanford)

The current “Ivy Group” shares knowledge and often best practices around admissions, fund-raising, alumni relations and more, but they are all separate and unique places. 
No sane human being applies to all of them! They have vastly different learning communities, social worlds, and modes of community engagement. They are unique places—from the crunchy granola of Brown to the Southern eating club charm of Princeton to the sports and learning megaplex of Stanford. And while each of the Ivies attracts a diverse body of students, once you start looking carefully, you will find one or two of them more attractive than the others.
So when I ask a student, “Where are you applying to college?” and they answer “definitely the Ivies,” I shake my head “no, no, no.” That’s the totally backwards way to go about building a college list, and suggests you have not done any serious research—about yourself or about colleges.
