The time has almost come to start worrying about which schools to apply to and such, and I've been freaking out lately over it. I also haven't really been too active throughout high school (im a junior atm).

GPA:
sophomore- 3.2 UW (ap chem, standard english/history, honors spanish/math)
junior- ~3.3 UW (all honors)

Extra Curricular:
sophomore- environmental club and tennis
junior- NONE!!!!! (...i know)

Work/Volunteer:
No working experience, but ive volunteered both summer of sophomore and junior year as a camp counselor. 150 hours~

SAT:
reasoning- 1830 (planning on retaking for 2000+)
sat II chem- 670
i'm taking math this weekend (probably around a 750)

Recommendations:
I have a few teachers in mind and i really think ill get good recommendations from them.

I know this isn't a great resume but do i have a chance to get into a good/decent college? The list of colleges I have in mind are:
- UCLA
- New York University (top choice)
- Rice University
- Boston University
- University of Michigan
- University of Rochester

I wanna go somewhere in the New York area and thinking about major in law or business. Any recommendations to other schools would be great. Thanks.

Well, having nearly NO ECs is pretty much gonna kill the application. Everything else is fairly decent (assuming you'll bring that SAT up). If I were you, I'd try to do something pretty big this summer. Getting a job, internship, going to a prestigious summer program, or volunteering someplace really unique and needy would be good. Although, i don't know how much you can do with the summer pretty much already starting....

With that being said, those schools will be reaches for you because of your lack of ECs. Try looking at more safeties and matches, and try to do something more to get involved.

^ yeah i know :/ i saw the application form from my high school and the ec section is like 2 pages. i REALLY need to do something over the summer, but what would you recommend that is doable. also does ec in senior year matter because im probably going to do tennis, join a club, and go to a martial arts thing. (is that decent)?

voodoo, those colleges would most probably be reaches for you. The GPA doesn't help right now and the SAT could be better. Having awesome ECs might have had a balancing effect, but there's a lack of that too. I would suggest researching more safeties and matches, but still leave room for some reaches. Good luck voodoo.

I'd say, the only school on this list where you might have a chance is BU. Unfortunately, these are all top-flight universities that attract the best and the brightest...

yeah kinda.. haha. not that there's no chance you would get into those schools, i would look at more schools that are easier to get into. you don't really have a "catch", or something that will make you stand out.

voodoo, don't give up, though. Simply expand your list. Include more safeties -- your state university, for example -- as well as schools that aren't as well known. There are many in the mid-west, for example, that love regional diversity.

youre not screwed for college at all. but you are pretty screwed for a top 40. im not going to a top 40 either and in no way am i ashamed. undergrad really isnt a big deal. apply to some good public schools

^ T.T to sum it up, im REALLY screwed? yeah i know i should of done better in high school but if i were to do a bit better to improve my extracurriculars would it help? or should i just give up on those schools heh. i mean i havent applied to any schools yet but those are some of the schools i would love to go to though. thanks guys any recommendations on schools that would fit me? (business or maybe law major) around NY. Thanks again

union college in albany Ny or franklin and Marshall in penn. dickinson College conneticut college and Uconn. those are some id say for you good luck!

Law is for graduate school, so don't worry about that. If you want the NYC area look at SUNY Stonybrook, Hofstra, Manhattan College, Marist (you can get into NY for a day on occasion-1.5 hour train ride), Rutgers-Newark (train ride into NYC), Seton Hall. Fordham will be a high match/reach. Also, look into Pace University (all campuses). If you decide against business check out Drew. Fairleigh Dickinson would be another safety possibility.

voodoo - you can look up each school's website for that info -- also, search engines such as princetonreview.com or collegeboard.com will also have it.

try the SUNY and CUNY schools, NYU stern is one of the best undergrad business schools in the nation, and sorry for being a little blunt, but I think that NYU stern isn't gonna happen...... either is Rice..... srry =] more safety's that you LIKE is important, maybe a state public??? If you like business Indiana University, kelley (???), i know it's not in NY but it has one of the top 20-30 undergrad B-schools in the nation and has average stats close to yours....
