Am i looking in the right neighborhood?

Hi, i am a junior going to a top high school in California. I am interested in knowing my chances at the follwoing schools:

UCB
UCLA
Cornell
MIT
Stanford

GPA UW: 3.65
UC Weighted: 4.25

SAt I: 2250
SAT II: 800 MathIIc, 770 Physics, 770 US

I have taken the hardest course load offferd at my school that inlcudes 5 APs this year and 6 next year.

AP Calc: 5 (projected)
AP US: 5
AP Psych: 5
AP Eng: 5
AP Chem: 4

EC:
Track (9-10)
Cross Country (10-12)
Soccer (9-10)
Treasurer of Lions club
Treasurer of FBLA
4 years MUN
President/Founder of Ace Program (low cost tutoring program) that is sponsored by city
NHS
1st place in Community Science Fair
Soccer Coach and certified referee
Communut Service is around 300 hours

I was wondering if my early decision chance is better at Stanford or Cornell ( I like them both!).
Hope for many comments.
Thanks!

well all your stats look good except for that unweighted gpa. guess u got a couple b's? stanford's obviously very high in the food chain, so im guessing cornell is a better choice for ea. mit's obviously a science/math field, and your ec's don't really show alot about that. i dont really know much about that school, but ... i wouldnt expect a lot. the rest you should be fine with =)

if you want to be tied down to a school and risk not getting scholarship, then you can apply ED. that's if you REALLY like the school and visited it and everything. you dont' want to limit yourself because you thought this school was so good.

btw, do you go to whitney high? just wondering

i like your SAT IIs. raise your SAT I if you want to be competitive in ivy league and stanford and MIT.

UCB and UCLA are pretty good chances.

Solid stats, but a little light on the extracurriculars... quit soccer by tenth grade but you're a coach and certified referee? The only club you've gone for four years is MUN but no leadership positions?

Well, you shouldn't "like them both" if you want ED, you're going to have to like one better than the other. But just looking at what your application might look like and what Cornell and Stanford's applications are, you are much better off applying early to Cornell. Best of luck,

TTG

Ive been in FBLA and Lions club for four years also.

i hate the lakers

just to let you know

haha ; )

You are not the first!

I would probably go early Cornell, but problem is, Cornell is very gpa intensive with their admissions policies. They reject many students who score high on their SATs because trhey have weak gpas, but your still probably better off applying to cornell

What about my regular chances at those schools?

Excellent chance at all UCs. Good shot at Cornell. MIT if your SATI math is close to 800 is a good shot. Stanford you have average chance.

My SAT I breakdown is 800 math, 720 writing, and 730 critical reading

any other comments? please!

Cornell Early Decision is good. They have a higher rate of acceptance than Stanford. Of course, that doesn`t guarantee anything.

Cornell is much easier to get into than the others

lakers1787:

UCLA: Match
UCB: Match
Stanford: Slight Reach

Flopsy, what does "slight reach" mean to you? What percentage would you give it?

Flopsy, i was wondering what made you edit it?

zagat:

To me, Slight Reach means a ~40% chance of acceptance.

Here's my indexing methodology:
0-10%: Super Reach
10-30%: Reach
30-50%: Slight Reach
50-70%: Match
70-90%: Safe Match
90-99%: Safety
100%: Super Safety

lakers1787:

I originally thought Stanford was a Reach for you, like most other Stanford applicants on CC, but then edited it to a Slight Reach because I realized you're applying for Early Decision.

Flopsy, you may want to rethink the words you use. Safe match sounds as though a candidate would be safe in terms of getting in which you show above is not the case.

Slight reach means 30-50%? How do you figure Stanford is a slight reach in this case when they turn down half of 4.0/1600s?

any other predictions/percentages?
