I'm from Maryland and I wanted to know if its particularly difficult for an out of state student to get into The University of Illinois @ Urbana-C w/ a 1780/2400 SAT

Compared to UMCP out of state is UIUC out of state harder?

UIUC isn't biased towards out of staters. I think 1780 is near the median score for some UIUC colleges like the Liberal Arts.

I'm from MD, had around a 1780 (1800 to be exact) and was rejected from UIUC.

1780 is around the 25th %ile for students at Urbana-Champaign.

You probably had a decent hook.

I actually got accepted with 1700, does that mean I got really lucky?

i got accepted by business at UIUC with a SAT of 1690.however im an international student.am i lucky too?haha

UIUC evaluates out-of-state and in-state applicants the same so difficulty to get in is about the same for both. Your real SAT considered for admission is your score without the writing section because UIUC is not using the writing section yet to determine admission (it is building a data base of scores and waiting to develop some history with the writing section before deciding how much it rely on it). Typical 50% range of SAT scores for LAS is 1200 to 1400 (without writing), for engineering 1320 to high 1400's. However, just as important is class rank and a high class rank can make up for a lower test score. Overall admission rate is usually in 62% and 68% range.

Yea I have 1210 Old SAT

To be frank, UIUC is not that impressive. My Sats are 2140. They accept me within 2 weeks.

UIUC's acceptance rate has been increased to 75% for the last year i think.I think it shows a lot of the decreasing quality of the students.

That's great...more hope for me!! :)

haha good luck to you then! but yeah...i've decided to choose Uni of Washington over UIUC.I think I will gain more living in a big city and I feel both business schools are around the same standard.each has its pros and cons..but its UW for me!

Congrats SebmaFSX_53!

I think its more than luck. You probably have good grade and good EC that makes them want to accept you as a student. College looks at more than just SAT scores. They want well rounded student, they dont want all people to have high SAT score only. I have 1730 on my SAT and Vandy and UMich accepted me ... i was so suprised =P .
