Am I making a mistake by not accepting UCLA's offer

I just finished community college with 4.00 GPA (electrical engineering as a major) and I got accepted to UCSD and UCLA, but I received rejection from UCB. After a lot of thinking and calculating the costs, I decided to accept UCSD's offer. I live only 20 minutes away from UCSD, but 3 hours from UCLA. I love both schools a lot, a little more love toward UCLA tho. I asked a lot of people and almost everyone said that both schools are very close in undergraduate level, so it is not worth all the trouble of taking a loan and moving out. Now, I am in a dilemma. Am I wasting a great opportunity by not going to a university that has a great reputation as UCLA? Please any info would help. Thank you

lol no, ucla’s reputation for engineering isn’t that much better than that of ucsd for prestige to really matter for companies hiring you (although to the layman, UCLA will sound more impressive)

ultimately, college is what you make of it, and you can easily be successful at both colleges

No. Don’t worry about the reputation. It’s all about how hard you work and how you establish yourself. You can get just as great education at UCSD by being at the top of your class and doing well than taking excessive amounts of loans and not being able to pay them off. You made the smart choice. Especially for something as in demand as electrical engineering, the place you went to college won’t make that much a difference.

I agree. You’ll receive a fine education at UCSD; you’re not making a mistake in choosing it over UCLA.

I think you made the right decision with UCSD. UCSD and UCLA engineering isn’t that far apart from each other. Also, have you visited UCLA and UCSD? Which campus did you like better? I got into UCB and UCLA and was torn between both schools. Luckily for me, I visited them both and liked UCLA’s campus and environment way better which led me to pick UCLA instead.
