OK guys, I posted this on another board but I thought it’d be good for me to post this here as well:
i did the International Baccalaureate and came out with a decent score of 38/45, and proceeded to get into law school in the uk. However recently, I have been having second thoughts about Law. So part of me is thinking of applying to the US for an East Asian Studies (or related) course.
My questions:

I’m 21 this year. Having completed two years of compulsory military service, if I were to take a gap year out, that would make me 22 when I apply for college. Will this make me a non-trad student? Also, will my choice of schools be severely limited if so?

I don’t know if my course load in the IB was rigorous enough and so am considering taking up SATs and the ACT. Could I just apply with the SATs and ACT alone, without putting in my IB grades?

what kind of recommendations are allowed? i’ve been out of school for awhile, so some of my teachers have left.

My grades/ECs:
IB 38 points - 775666(+1)
Cross-Country Class and House Representative
National Police Cadet Corps 2nd Sergeant, Attended Adventure Training Camp, Certificate of Distinction (Silver)
Art Club Certificate of Merit
Member in Production Team of Agrobiology CD ROM
100 Hours of Community Involvement
50 Hours of training with the national Table Tennis Association
Standard 1st and Subject Award Recipient for Chinese (HL)
Nationwide 1st in Intercollegiate Chinese Essay Writing Competition
Standard 6th and Deans List Recipient for Economics (HL)
Published twice in our schools annual Chinese language publication
Military Service Certificate of Distinction
Qualified into Mensa
I have yet to take my SATs yet though. Considering all the above, what schools are within reach for me? Could I possibly dream of getting into an Ivy (like dartmouth for eg)?
Thanks
