I originally had a list of volunteer and job plans for this summer, but they all fell through because I'm only 15 (im going to be a sophmore). So, I decided I was going to focus on weekly violin lessons and I'm going to begin Indian dance classes (I've always been interested in learning dance, but until now my family didn't have the money for lessons). In addition to these classes, I'm also beginning a club about artistic expression at my library, which is our town's community center. Is this fine, or am I not doing enough during the summer?
* I'm concerned because these activities don't occupy much of my time, compared to those doing volunteering or paid jobs.

This is probably fine for the summer before your sophomore year. If you are looking for more to do, can you volunteer more hours at the library? Volunteer hours are always welcome on your college applications. Or look for a way to earn some money to pay for a program next summer or money for college expenses. Jobs are also well received by college admissions offices!

I agree that this is a great time to be volunteering, and you should be able to find something to replace the options that fell through. Your HS probably maintains a list of local organizations that would welcome your help.

Doing enough for what? I would advise doing what you truly enjoy and that will definitely shine through on your college app. If you’re just doing what you think adcoms will like, then why not spend that time on self-cultivation and growth? I mean, volunteering is definitely a great thing if you truly enjoy doing it. But if it’s all to “look good” on a college app, then what’s the point? Thousands of other kids are going to same route and many of them are going to realize they are molding themselves to fit the college’s persona and not the other way around.
Find something you really enjoy doing (if it’s volunteering, then so be it) and delve into it! That passion is what will win over adcoms in the end.
