Am I not going to get in ANYWHERE?

So, here goes... I'm applying to a LOT of reaches, but I have 2 plausible safties (but I don't really like them all that much, ha) Here are the schools I'm applying to:

Boston University
Brandeis
Connecticut College
MCPHS (Mass. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences)
Tufts University (or maybe Boston College, haven't decided yet)
U of Rochester
UMass Amherst
UConn (Storrs, CT)
Union
Wesleyan

AND the stats ...

GPA: 3.646 weighted (this is looow, I know most demanding courseload possible, 5 APs (Chem, Euro Hist, Calc AB, Env Sci, and English Lit) + all honor courseload... top 25% of class, still. I think second decile... I do go to a very competitive public school in Massachusetts, ranked top 10-15)
SAT I: 720V 760M 720W ~ 2200 (will raising it to 2300 siginifigantly help?)
SAT IIs: MATH IIC 760, CHEM 710, LIT 730

ECs:
- I'm an artist! That is basically my passion. I'm looking to pursue studio arts at Tufts, and I'm sending an extensive portfolio with several award-winning pieces (Golden Globe Silver Key, the like), I've also won a few state awards in the last few years for works I've done, been published in literary magazines and the like. I took a summer oil painting course, I used to teach a small art class for children... and I've won many school-wise drawing awards also.
- I have over 350+ hours of community service... I tutor 8 hours a week for underprivledged, bright middle school students looking to get into a private school, I'm a leader of an organization to promote fundraiser walks for thinks like cancer, I was the assistant editor of a regional literary magazine (quite famous around this district actually, you can go buy it in stores!), and other numerous little community service clubs. I'm big into community service !
- I also work about 10 hours a week... at a japanese restaurant, running errands and such!

My essay is pretty decent and very personal, my AP English teacher who's known as "Mister College Application Essay Guy" liked it, haha. It's kind of a parody on a babysitting experience, and demonstrates my love for children (well, kind of) My recs should be good (AP Chem + English 11 teacher), both of them liked me in junior year... hmm, I'm also an asian female, possibly looking into premed (pediatrician! ie my love for childreeen that's why I babysit and tutor younger kids so much, hehe)!

Thank you for taking your time to read through all this :)

Boston University
Brandeis
MCPHS (Mass. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences)
U of Rochester
UMass Amherst
UConn (Storrs, CT)
Union

In for sure at those schools.

Uh...First, a question: If you're an artist and it's your passion (and clearly you're really good), why do you want to do pre-med?

Second, if you're interested in art and maybe pre-med, you should look for schools that will let you at least try, if not do, both. I'm an art major with a lot of other interests, and although I didn't look for the art/pre-med combination when I was looking for colleges, I did look for schools that would let me do art and let me pursue my other academic interests as well. Of the schools on your list, Conn College probably offers the best combination of good art/good pre-med programs. BU also has a pretty good combination of art and pre-med courses. Brandeis has, from what I understand, a strong pre-med program, but the art program is limited. Wesleyan (in Middlebury, CT) has an eccentric and very limited art program. Don't know what kind of pre-med program they've got.

Tufts does have a studio arts program, but it's in conjunction with and located at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, which is a ways from the school. Essentially, the Tufts studio arts program is the SMFA BFA program with some Tufts requirements tacked on. If you go for this program, you'll spend relatively little time at Tufts, and most of your time, especially in the last two years of the program, at SMFA. On campus, Tufts only has an Art History progam. I suggest you take a much closer look at the Tufts programs before you send your app in.

Another school you might want to consider is Washington University in St. Louis. It's a very good school - ranked #12 by US News - and it has both a good art school and one of the best pre-med programs in the country. It's also a very flexible school, and if you want to major in art and do some pre-med stuff, or visa versa, you'd be able to no problem. Now, it would be a reach for you - your GPA and class rank are a bit light for Wash U - but your SATs and SAT2s are more than adequate, and if you send the Art School a dynamite portfolio, that just might do the trick.

Finally, you might want to post a query on the Art Majors forum (look under College Majors) about colleges that have both good art programs and good pre-med programs, or colleges that are strong academically and have good art programs. You'll probably get lists of schools from a number of people that will be able to satisfy both your interests.

Oh, by the way, the only reaches I see on your list above are Tufts and Wesleyan, and they're both low reaches.

Clarifications on the Tufts-SMFA dual-degree program. It is a five-year program that leads to a BA from Tufts and a BFA from the SMFA. You do not get any slack from either degree program -- ie, you still have to fulfill all the requirements regular single-degree Bachelor's students at Tufts have to fulfill; same at SMFA. You spend the first three years entirely at Tufts with a studio course at teh SMFA each semester. Your senior year, it's about 50/50 and you graduate with your BA with the class you got to Tufts with. The fifth year is 100% SMFA. It is a great program; my boyfriend is in it, now in the fourth year, and loves it. He does not feel disconnected from Tufts OR the SMFA.

PreMed isnt a major. He can apply as an Art History major (It'll prob help him out because he has the ECs to back it up) and complete the premed requirements that can be done under any major. Majoring in art will also likely give him a huge GPA boost, which will help come Med School Apps.

^ She, not he, hehe.

Thanks! your replies were really helpful, and I appreciate the long post on premed/art schools, amptron2x! I'll post a topic on the Art majors forum in a moment. And also, addressing your question: I don't want to be an artist or do anything really ART-related... I mean, I love drawing and painting and etc, but I don't see myself making a living off of it, you know?

Well, I don't know about premed yet. I might even want to do architecture, or business, or... no idea yet! But I'm looking for a good premed program, just in case :)

I thought about the SMFA & Tufts dual degree, but I contacted a few people and they said the program was a bit too hectic - jugging TWO degrees in five years is no mean feat, lol - so I'm not sure if I'll be doing that yet...

and you really think Tufts and Wesleyan are low reaches? My GPA is REALLY low for both those schools, lol... would applying to Williams be too crazy of a reach? I've heard their art program is fabulous (and they have a 90%+ med school acceptance rate)

bump a deee dump ~
