Well I'm currently a sophmore taking the toughest courses my school offers.
I have a 3.83 unweighted gpa (four honors and 2 regular classes. I'm currently taking SAT prep classes getting into the mid 1800s, i plan to bring that up to at least 2000 or more by the end of this summer (going through intense SAT study)...
My junior year schedule will be 3 AP courses and 3 honors course and my visual art requirement. (us history ap, english 11ap, stats ap, trig/precal H, spanish 3 H, chemistry H, and photo 1.) hoping for around a 3.6 uw gpa for those courses. I plan to take 3 SAT II.
200+ community service hours before graduation.

Strive for the highest GPA possible - GPA is the most important thing on the application. If you do not do so well on your SAT, your SAT II scores will help offset it.

Recommendation: Take the ACT to diversify your options (some students tend to do better on the ACT than SAT). Actively participate in clubs/organizations.

I think you should give it a try anyway... you can get practice ACT stuff from your counseling office. If you do poorly on your ACT, you can re-take it and college will not see your previous takes.

I'm weakest at critical reading and my ACT score was still higher. So you never know till you try!

Also, SAT IIs are important for UCs...if I'm not mistaken, their emphasis on SAT IIs has still been greater than other schools. So take note of that and keep up the work!

they count the weighted point for some classes. I don't think honors for soph classes give the extra point (my honors english soph yr didnt get a point) but taking honors chem soph yr gave my a point. ucs give u up to 2 classes that get the weighted grade point soph yr i think. u need to check and see if which if any of your classes qualify for the extra point

Sounds like you're definitely on the right track in terms of academics; however, you might consider doing a few more leadership activites, either outside of school, or through school clubs/student government/sports. Universities are looking for well rounded students, and leadership positions give you extra bonus points. I had average SAT's (1890) and good grades but I truly believe it was my extracurriculars (ASB, officer in several clubs) that got me into the Universities that I applied to (UCLA, Berkeley, USC...) Good luck, and keep up the good work! :D
