I'm currently a sophmore in a decent high school in the area, specifically in northern New Jersey. My ethnicity is African-American and I want to go to Northeastern as a Business major

My GPA is 3.1 which I'm aware is seriously low. I have however made serious strides towards improving it. Next month I'm going to take the PSAT. My exact curriculum:

Freshman year:
Modern World History (B)
Algebra 1 (A)
Biology (B)
English 9 (D)
IT Essentials (B)
French 2 (A)
Art (B)

Currently taking:
English 10
French 3
Java
Honors Geometry
Honors US History
Honors Environmental Science

Classes I'll most likely have down the road:
AP US History
Honors Chemistry
Honors Algebra 2
Honors American Lit.
AP Psychology
AP Computer Science (maybe)
AP World History
AP Statistics
Honors Physics
Honors Pre-Calc
AP Lit. and Comp.
Personal Finance (school grad. requirment)
Business Law

By the time I finish High School:
4 years of Hockey
3 years of Spring Track or maybe Lax
A summer job of caddying at a local country club

I need more in my background of extra curriculars.

A “D” on a transcript is akin to death in college admissions.

Hoopser – to suggest that one terrible grade cannot be overcome at a school like Northeastern is just silly.

Especially with Northeastern, which is an excellent school, with an innovative coop program, but not anywhere near as selective as Ivies/top 25 schools.

However, I’ll bite – what basis do you have for your statement? And if you have none, why are you saying things like this?

I just said that because my brother had VERY similar stats and had trouble getting accepted into even his state schools.

And then there’s another problem, because where I come from at least, a D is not a passing grade, which means he won’t be getting credit for that class (if they implement the same policy that most schools do). So he’ll have to make up the class somehow (I saw something about Java up there, not sure what that is- maybe credit recovery?).

I was by no means saying he can’t get into the school, because NOBODY on this site knows if he can or can’t. It was late when I posted this, and I was simply reminiscing about my brother’s admissions experience and the difficulties he went through. Didn’t mean to confuse you.

And @ OP, take everything everyone says on here with a grain of salt.

A “D” in a non honors non AP class looks pretty bad. Why not retake in summer school?
