I'm an international applicant from the Dominican Republic. I'm a senior in highschool, my unweighted GPA is 3.9. I scored 1870 in the SAT I, 620 math, 610 critical reading and 640 writing. I also scored 660 on my Literature Subject Test (SAT II). My school doesn't offer any AP classes, except math which I already take. I've played soccer with my school for the last five years and I've been team captain the last two. I was class president freshman year, student council vice president my junior year. I was a columnist for the school's newspaper freshman and sophomore year and I'm currently its editor.I'm part of my class' graduation committee I've participated in community service consistently over the years. I've also been part of several UN models and other school activities. I've done pretty much everything my school here has let me be a part of. Apart from school, I've played the piano since the age of four. I taught myself to play guitar and I've done courses on Musical Reading, History, Theory, Composition, Harmony, and Instrumental Improvisation. Being a foreigner, applying to universities can be very confusing, and that's why I was hoping to find help here. My prospected major is Economics, but I'm also very interested in Finance. My list, until now is as follows:

University of Notre Dame

Mcgill University

Babson College

Bentley University

University of Washington at Seattle

University of Central Florida

Please chance me and if possible suggest any additions or substitutions in my college list. Thank You!

I understand my list is peculiar. UW and UCF are on my list because I have two brothers that live in Seattle and Orlando so I thought that would make my transition smoother. I want a school with good academics that challenges me. Big cities aren’t a need for me. My satisfaction is only achievable if I feel I’m in a good school. Notre Dame is obviously a reach but, being my dream university and all, I thought I might give it a shot. My parents hace saved up for my college education since I was born so as long as financial resources go, they’re available.

I like their school spirit, their academics, their athletics (even though I don’t plan on pursuing anything in college regarding sports, their reputation, their study abroad programs, their job placement, and their location. I guess I just like it as a whole. However I haven’t had contact with that many schools down here in the DR. I just want to go to a university that really prepares me for the future. What do you think I should do?

While you’ll get into UCF, I don’t think it is a good choice for you. It’s largely a commuter school. That can be frustrating for an int’l student.

Also consider Villanova and Fordham.

I don’t know how good the business programs are at schools like Marquette, St Louis U, or Gonzaga, but those might be schools to consider…

there are other publics that you could apply to if you want a good B-school and sports to watch.

You will not get into Notre Dame - save your application money. You are 100 points too low on each section of your SATs for Notre Dame. Their average math + CR = 1420. Your’s is a 1230.

Somebody recommended Villanova and Fordham. Your scores are significantly below the average scores at Villanova (median SAT for business is 1340). You are below Fordham’s business school scores too but you might have a shot there.

Doubtful for McGill.

Babson and Bentley I don’t know anything about but I think Meadow Soprano applied to them.

UCF you should get in no problem.

You should look at state flagship universities like Rutgers, Penn State, U Connecticut, etc.

That is a good suggestion by gloworm if you would prefer smaller schools.

Please don’t get discouraged by my earlier post. Your scores are not bad (in fact they are well above average) but for top tier schools admission is very competitive. At the better state schools the enrollment is large enough that they have to accept a wide range of applicants. You are a good match for Penn State, University of Pittsburgh, University of Connecticut, Rutgers, Ohio State, etc. Another option would be Syracuse for private schools.
