Am I on the right track?

Hey so I am a freshman and I want to know if I am doing the right things and what I can improve on

GPA- 4.5 w, 4.0 uw
Rank- 1st in class
Scores- 33, PSAT-215
ECs- forensics (public forum debate and extemp)
Mock trial
Model UN
Youth leg
Interact club
Habitat for Humanity
Junior Classical League (Latin)
Mu Alpha Theta

Voice
Kumon program completed
Classical Indian dance
Tutoring
Ran middle school Model UN program

And my sophmore year schedule- precal honors, English 2 honors, Chem honors, Latin AP, AP bio, AP Euro, AP Stats

So what do you think? Am I on the right track to getting a top 20 university? Please tell me any areas you see lacking and how I can improve myself. Thank you!

A fellow Kumon student! Good to see you complete to the program (math I’m assuming?). You grades are good. You extracurricular activities on the other hand are lackluster and cookie-cutter. Get a leadership position. Do something unique.

omg i’m creyhing

Hey guys!
Hobbiton- yeah! I actually completed the English program in 5th grade but I am just finishing math this year. And I agree about my ECs- I have placed in forensics and I have won awards in model UN, youth leg, and mock trial- but those 4 activities are so time consuming I’m not sure what unique activity I could really get invested in. For someone who loves public speaking, international relations, politics, and service does anyone have suggestions of unique ECs I could do?

Another question- does being an officer within clubs count as leadership? Because that’s what I have been relying on. Also coaching that middle school model UN team

Yes, being an officer counts as leadership. Just make sure you go up and beyond in those officer positions to make the club better.

Ok fantastic  I will definitely make sure to do that!

Does anyone else have suggestions? The more the merrier!

You aren’t president yet, you ■■■■■.

^I think she’s president of the clubs she mentioned…
@thenerdofawesome: How are you allowed to take 4 AP classes as a sophomore?!! LUCKY!! At what age did you start taking Latin 1 for high school credit?:)

FYI - nothing in middle school counts.

^I think what she meant was that she’s coaching the middle school Model UN program…I think…

In her OP she said “ran middle school MUN program”, as in she doesn’t run it anymore. Unless she quit her position earlier this year we can assume that she did it before high school.

Ok I’m sorry for the confusion.
Earlier this year I coached a middle school model UN team, and i hope to do it again next year.
I made a poor choice in wording.

And I never said I was president of any of those clubs. I am the freshman representative and organizer for interact club, secretary of habitat for humanity, vice president of model UN and youth leg, and treasurer of the Latin club.
As the years go on (I am only a freshman) I hope to attain leadership roles in my forensics and mock trial team.

And our school after freshman year really does not set limits on APs. My schedule just happened to work out. And I took Latin 1 in eighth grade. Our school only has 1,Latin 2, Latin 2 honors, and AP.

And yet again I am SO sorry about the confusion!

@thenerdofawesome: How does your school let you skip Latin 2 and 3? In our school district, we have to complete the prereqs…

Well I didn’t skip Latin 2. I took Latin 2 honors this year as a freshman. I took Latin 1 last year in eighth grade, and I will take Latin AP next year as a sophomore. The school won’t let us skip Latin 2 before AP. However, our county does not offer a Latin 3 (standard or honors) course, so after Latin you go straight to AP if you want to.
