Am I on the right track

I didn’t do well my freshman year of high school (2.6 UW, 2.8W)
Over the summer I decided that I wanted to get into one of the more prestigious colleges and realized i have a shot at getting into UCs. I was trying to get straights As through sophomore and junior year, but I just finished my first semester of sophomore year with 3.5 UW 3.75 W. I feel accomplished because i’ve managed to raise my GPA so much, but I don’t think any of the UCs will see it that way. Im hoping to do better next semester to bring my UC gpa up and am planning on getting some volunteer hours in during my junior year. Based off of this information here do you guys think I still have a chance of getting into UCs? I was hoping to apply to UCLA,UCI,UCSC.

UC’s will only use 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation so your Freshman grades will be looked at to make sure you passed the a-g course requirements, but they are not used in your GPA. An upward trend is good so keep up the good work. You also need to have good HS course rigor and take some AP courses to help boost your GPA. Until you finish your Junior year and have test scores and a list of EC’s, there is no way to chance you.

Also take a look at the UC Freshman profiles for the campus of interest so you know what GPA and Test score ranges to target.

Good Luck.
