I think I'm also considered First Generation.

My top choices are New York University, Boston University, and Macalester. Am I on track? Does my list consist of the ideal balance of reaches, matches, and safeties?

Thank you! I'll chance back!

I can tell you right now your basically in at BU. My sister went there with MUCH lower grades and scores, and few EC’s. As for the others, I dont know much. You sound like you are a very good candidate for all of them.

You are a great candidate for any of those schools in my opinion. The only schools which may be slight reaches are NYU and Carnegie, but I think you’ll get in. Your SAT CR score is a big low but I think you should be fine.

Chance back?

Reasonable shot at all but Midd, but are they financially doable? These are not schools good for aid.

You need to take SAT subject tests I think for the top schools, like NYU. But I think you have a good chance.

Macalester and Middlebury both have need-blind admissions, and Gustavus offers nearly full need. The U isn’t that pricey for in-state students. NYU, Carnegie Mellon, and BU…let’s just say that I’m really crossing my fingers. Hopefully some scholarships work my way.

As for Subject Tests, Carnegie Mellon is the only school that requires them. So, I may drop it from my list.

Might look at Holy Cross(don’t have to be religious)-very good LAC with nice campus 1 hour from Boston. Holy Cross has strong pre-med program with new $70million science building and HC is also need-blind for financial aid.

Thank you-I will definitely look into it.

Any other opinions?

Your SAT and GPA is at or above the average acceptance for each of those schools!

You seem like an amazing candidate. I feel like every one of those schools is a safety/guarantee for you besides NYU and Carnegie Mellon…but you’re so qualified…I think you have like a 99% chance at both of those schools! Personally, I have the feeling that you will be accepted to all three of your first choice schools, NYU will not give you as much money as the other two…so go with one of them!

Chances back Please!

Certainly on track. You are a competitive applicant for all the schools you listed.

In fact, I might even suggest looking for some other “reach” schools. Depending on the extent of your EC involvement (hard to tell from some of your descriptions), you could very possibly be a solid candidate at more selective schools.

I would say you are a match for all but Middlebury.
No reflection on you, it’s just that Middlebury is pretty much a reach for mostly everybody.
I’d give you 50/50 shot there and pretty much a lock at all the others.

Thank you all so much!
Luckily, I just threw in Middlebury for the heck of it.

I agree with the previous posters though I’d say you have a better shot at Moddlebury than you’d think. Well good luck!

Thanks! More opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The rigor of your transcript might be an issue at your reach schools. If you took the hardest courses available at your school, you’re fine tho. Why do you have just 2 honors and one AP?

Those are the only advanced classes that we have.

I’ll have 4 dual-enrollment classes with another university though. So, do you think that will help make up for my school’s rigor?

yes, you are definitely OK on this. So long as you are taking advantage of what your school has to offer, rigor won’t count against you. Not taking AP/honors on only counts against you if you avoid the tough courses offered in favor of high grades in easier classes.

Make sure you get in some subject tests for those schools. Even if not required, NYU will balk if they don’t see them. Other than that, your stats are superb, all the way from GPA to ranking, and this 2130 is plenty good for the schools to which you are applying. Bear in mind, some schools like NYU have many students and are unpredictable at times. You should get in, the only obstable would be this unpredictability. I was born and raised in New York City, so please don’t hesitate to ask me about these schools. My grandfather graduated from Fordham, and I’ve been on “campus” at NYU countless times. Please ask away!

Thank you!
