Am I playing with my future? Full Sail vs. other colleges

Ok, I'm a senior in high school this year and lately I've been on the search for colleges to apply to. Until recently, I was going to go to college to major in Psychology/French. But I've had a change of heart because I think I want to apply to Full Sail University and study for a Music Business career. Do you think that this is an unsafe bet? Am I not giving myself a Plan B in life because Full Sail is not a traditional college? Any and all advice is appreciated :)

Yes, it is a VERY unsafe bet.
If you really want to go into music business, you have some strong, reputable programs such as Belmont’s or Drexel’s. Otherwise, your best bet is to find a school with a business/management major and a music major/minor, such as Dickinson, Fordham, Pace, Rhodes, or even Tennessee State.

Loyola New Orleans also has a good Music Business program. University of the Arts, in Philadelphia, has a Music Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MBET) major: it’s just a few years old, though, and is still struggling a bit. Philly is a great city for music.

First of all, having a major in music business is a very unsafe option. You don’t need a degree to be successful in the music industry. This is a mistake many people make. Your success in this industry is based on your experience and who you know. If you want to work in the music industry you should major in something like communications, marketing, or PR while you get your foot in the door. One of my good friends started a very reputable blog that helps people who want to work in the music industry. She has been on multiple tours and worked many different jobs in the industry. The blog is: http://wearethekidsblog.com/

Secondly, I know many different people who have gone to Full Sail to major in music business and hated it. They didn’t like the program, said that many of their professors didn’t have any real experience, and they were unable to find work in the industry.

Isn’t Full Sail a for profit (basically a diploma mill)? I could be wrong. Its not regionally accredited, meaning that none of its credits transfer to other universities. Just google Full Sail diploma mill.

I believe that Full Sail is a awesome College i in the same potion i am going to full sail for recording arts

We live in south Florida (Full Sail is in central FL so not too far away) and I haven’t met anyone yet who says anything good about FS. The main complaint I hear is the cost.

Middle Tennessee State – not Tennessee State- has the recording industry programs.
Also consider SUNY Oneonta.
