Am I "preppy?"

Actually im not starting trouble but u said u do have some stuff from Abercrombie and a sweatshirt from AE.

stop trying so hard...I can't believe you're still trying to convince people you're a prep, who cares? Why do you have to label yourself? Why do you have to abide by a perscribed life style so you can insist that you're a prep?

GDF, yeah, you're right. I said I have like..two articles of clothing from those stores. So what? They account for like 1% of my wardrobe.

Oh well... I don't care anymore.

I agree Spanks!!!

and in reply to your comment Jonathan K, you don't know me, so therefore, please don't label me.

Whatever, honestly, I saw you mention it somewhere before that you wore those brands and asked if you were preppy, so I posted my opinion, after all this is a forum and I was merely trying to give you advice, by the way, people generall consider me to be preppy, and I would post some personal information on here to give you an idea, but I really don't want everyone on this forum or in public to know my presonal information and such. By the way, I went to a moderately prestigious prep school, before coming to my current school, PM me if you want to find out more. Honestly tell the admin to close this forum because this is just ruining your username on CC. lol just my two cents.

WHO THE HELL CARES IF YOU'RE PREPPY OR RICH OR WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!

damn kids...

Do yourself a favor. But a Bruno Magli suit...maybe some A/X shirts....a few pairs of Diesel Jeans, and Merk those preppy bichis with real style

how can you afford those kinds of clothing with your dad buying all the porn and prostitutes

^^hahahahah.

All right, well here's the thing....being a true prep is not about shopping at the nearest teen retailer. Kids today think they are preppy just because they wear some pique polo shirt with the collar popped, some jeans and a ribbon belt. It's not a fashion trend whatsoever, and those of us who are real preps have always been one and will always be one. Like Ralph Lauren himself, we don't care about what's trendy, we just know what we like (the clothes we wear, the things we eat/drink, the places we vacation, where we go to college, etc.).

The epitome of prep means effortless, classic style. You should look as though your personal style is secondary, that you threw on whatever was on the floor in the morning.

Some musts for a prep's wardrobe would include: washed oxford shirts, beat up (yet slim) chinos in a few colors, a pair of loafers, a great rugged herringbone blazer (probably my favorite part of my wardrobe), perhaps a navy blazer, some vintage Levi's that you can cuff with your loafers or flip flops, a navy seersucker jacket, some madras pants or a madras shirt, cashmere cableknit sweaters.......

Just check on Polo.com's STYLE section for answers to all your prep-related questions. All the items in a preppie's wardrobe are supposed to look like you've owned them for years, like they are PART of you.

I also would reccomend you go on Amazon and buy the classic book from the early 80's, The Official Preppy Handbook. While it's meant to be a kind of satire for its time, it became THE read for all people wanting to look like a prep. It's out of print, but you'll find plenty of used copies on Amazon for a few dollars.

Finally, being prep thru and thru is hard to explain to someone. It's how I've always been, and has a lot to do with my attitude, as well as my dress. Also, it's a traditional EAST COAST genre of style, so people pull it off differently in Cali. Thus, don't use them as a guide for how to be a genuine prep.

NOW ALL FO YOU JUST SHUT THE ***** UP!

LLLLLOOOOOLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha, the mum has that damn book...and it describes perfectly my whole family....but we dont consider ourselves preps

Sigh... who really cares if you're a preppy or not? Who cares about what your friends say? Just wear whatever feels comfortable... This thread sounds like a, "Hey guys, look at me! I'm cool because I wear J.Crew" thread.

ur preppy because you're applying to boarding school and go on vacations? no offense, but i think plenty of people go on vacations. furthermore, you can apply to boarding school and still not be preppy. and if you have two items of clothing from j crew and ralph lauren and that's the only preppy labels you have, sorry, you're not very preppy.

if you start a thread asking if you're preppy, then you probably aren't.
a real prep-- one who wears the clothes because they like them/grew up with them and could care less about recent books or trends -- doesn't need to ask people for reassurance.

(and onto the 3.9 & have a live over a 4.0 and study all the time. that's not necessarily a fair assessment. most people would take the 3.9 and be a well-rounded person because it's not a bad gpa by any standards)

hey, guys. poor jonny is offended if you say that hes not preppy.
i'll be the first one to tell jonny what he really wanted to hear all along.
Jonny. You're preppy

^^ i really love your user name.

^^^ me too

Let this thread die...

Can someone remind why being preppy is so uncool? I dont think so. It's just the way you are raised and brought up. You dont have to be some dropout druggie just to be cool. You can be preppy.
