Hi everyone,
I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering, and many school such as the UCs recommend a science and a math subject test for engineering majors. I already took the Math 2 Subject Test and got a 790, but I don’t see how I’ll be ready to take the Physics Subject Test. I took AP Physics 1 last year, but that class only covers about 60% of what you need to know. I would need to self study geometric/physical optics, thermal properties, thermodynamics, atomic and quantum phenomena, nuclear reactions, and relativity according to Barron’s. This on top of my classes, ACT prep, and college apps, seems like too much. I definitely should have started studying earlier, but even if I did I don’t think I would be able to get that great of a grasp of the new material from Barron’s alone. I already tried with Geometric Optics. So now I’m a bit concerned as I’ve heard that ‘recommended’ means ‘required.’ How much do you think it would hurt my chances if I don’t take this subject test? Should I self study as much as possible or should I focus on other things? Thank you!
