Am I qualified? Chance me, please!

So, basically, I'm curious as to know if I should even bother applying.
I WAS planning to apply to Exeter, Andover, and Choate, but after I got my SSATs back.. I'm not so sure. Keep in mind I'm actually still in grade 7, so I'll be applying next year. Oh, and yes, that means I get to re-take the SSATs (this is of huuuge importance!)

Grades:
I've had straight A's throughout all of last year & this year. I have to keep grade 8 grades in perspective too, I know :)

ECs:

Athletics
Diving - I started this in August, (1.5 year come application time) but I'm not competing competitively, but I love it, so should I even write this down??
Volleyball - 2 years (3, come app time), interdistrict..
Track & Field: 3rd in district in 4x100 relays

Arts
Ballet - 2 years, come app time. not en pointe
Choir - private choir & district choir. have performed at:
- Olympic Oval Opening (National)
- UNISONG, a national chorale contest/show

Instruments
Piano - 5 years come app time: have performed @ city hall.
Clarinet - 3 years come app time: school band.
Melodica - 2 years: Japanese school requirement
Ukulele - 2 years. (Haven't played the Ukelele in 2 years, though, so should I write this down?? Probably not, right?)

Languages
English
French (French Immersion school, fluent in speaking & writing) Won an award for 3rd in school-wide Concours d'art Oratoire (out of 90??)
Japanese (Grew up in Japan, fluent in speaking, not so much with writing..)
Chinese Mandarin (conversational)

Volunteering/Misc
Volunteered with regional food bank (2 years, will be 3: collected food & sorted)
Spirit Day Organizer (1 year)
Yearbook Committee/Powerpoint Team (1 year)
Chosen to attend District Leadership Conference (2 years in a row, might be 3 next year, fingers crossed!)

SSATs:
(oh dear god, don't kill me please)
This was lower level, which totally worries me.. Oh, and since I'm (hopefully) re-applying next year, I'll get to re-take!
MATH: 683 (89th percentile)
VERBAL: 686 (83rd percentile)
READING: 641 (52nd percentile) <- aaahhh, mega-fail. i didn't prepare AT ALL for this one, so i'll focus like.. insanely on this one. i swear. D:

overall: 2010 (80th percentile)

~
i'm not asking anybody to chance me in terms of qualified students (that's totally unpredictable, after all). i'm just wondering if it's even worth applying for.. i'm incredibly weak at athletics, too. /:
the 52 in reading.. oh goodness. that totally .. killed me. basically. (note that i have another year to prepare for & hopefully, improve on reading)

but then again, upper levels test percentiles are probably more competitive since most boarding schools start in grade 9.. argh!
bottom line: do you think i should apply? ..

your ssat is alright but you could definetly work to get that up a bit next year

other than that you’re great in my opinion

Hmm, it will be hard for you to get into a HADES school but if you write a brilliant essay who knows ? I would try apply to Kent, Loomis, Tabor type places if i were you as well as HADES.

Thank you, guys!

@ prezomar: haha, yes, i was looking into Pomfret school but i don’t know too much on it, so…
oh no, writing probably isn’t one of my strong points… and all this time, i thought i was good at reading comprehension! thus, i put all my effort into verbal (and i’m naturally pretty good with math), and this is the result! but if i didn’t prepare at all for verbal, i would have gotten like, 2nd percentile. lool.
ah well. re-take for SSATs for me :)

any other opinions? <3

At second thought you seem like an accomplished musician so this is what i would do if i were you. I would retake my ssat (using the Mcgraw hill book to prep for it it really is the best test prep book) I would then make recordings of me playing my best pieces on ym various instruments and send them in with the application. I would also try to research one school in particular in incredible detail so it seems like you know your stuff and have demonstrated interest. Do all of that and your good to go ! HADES may still be hell but you can give it a shot you have a reasonable chance if you increase you sat to the 85-90 range which is not that far off really.

You will be taking the high level one next yr so study hard and get a good 90’s score. Then nail home the point about the musician part like pezomar said with the piecies with every instrument. Not a lot of commitment to the other EC’s, but if you make significant strides in diving and get some sort of accomplishment out of it, that would look like an interesting new found passion. Still kinda iffy, but it never hurts to apply. Why not try atleast a couple out,I would go with bigger ones to increase chances of acceptance if you can’t do all.

you’re qualifications are more than enough. sure, apply. its unpredictable if you shall gain acceptance, but applying is worth a shot-come on, you’re in seventh grade-what have you got to lose?

it’s good that you know what ssat is actually like…
princeton’s review’s ssat test prep book is pretty useful too.
oh, and make LOTS of flashcards!!!
take them everywhere as well…

oh, and do well on your interviews, i don’t want to say to rehearse because then it would be too obvious…
just try to be yourself in them, and just treat it like a regular conversation.
basically, don’t be nervous about it!!

you’ll do fine… good luck :)
