Am I qualified enough for the Stanford Institutes of Medicine Summer Research Program?

I am wondering about my chances of being admitted to the SIMR Program. I would love to hear from people who’ve already been admitted and can tell me a little about the demographic there or their own application.

Basic outline of my application -

GPA:
3.9697 unweighted/ 4.5758 weighted

Science/Math Courses:
Honors Chemistry - 9th (A, A)
Honors Physics - 10th (A, B)
IB Higher Level Biology 1 - 11th (A)
IB Standard Level Environmental Systems and Societies 1 - 11th (A)
Pre Calculus - 9th (A, A)
AP Calculus AB - 10th (A-, A)
IB 3 Higher Math - 11th (A)

Other:
IB Standard Level Economics - 11th (A)
IB Higher Level English 1 - 11th (A)
IB Spanish 1 - 11th (A)

Activities:
Speech and debate member
President/founder of a community service club dedicated to raising money for literacy and gender equality in education in third world countries
Library volunteer
Natural Resource Management intern during school yr

I have not taken any standardized tests (ie, SAT or ACT) except AP Calc AB, where I got a 5.

I plan to get a LOR from my IB Math 3 teacher and have, of course, decent essays.

Anyone have any comments on what my chances are/how this can be improved?

Most of the highly competitive summer programs have many more qualified applicants than spots, making them notoriously hard to predict. SIMR accepts about 5%? The essays are reportedly very important, and also realize the housing is an issue for SIMR, are you from the Bay area? - as of last year you needed adult supervision in off-campus housing (in writing), or apply for Stanford family apartment with parent present throughout.

Certainly apply around to the well known programs, but also realize you may have local options if you approach universities and colleges nearby. research and e-mail the faculty in labs you may be interested in.
