I am considering applying to Emory's Scholars Program, which I understand is extremely rigorous when it comes to selection. I probably will not be able to attend Emory unless I am given close to a full scholarship, which is why I am applying to this and want to know if I have a shot.

I have a 35 ACT composite, a 3.98 GPA, have taken as many high-level classes as my (somewhat limited) school allows, and am involved in numerous extracurricular activies (i.e. state finalist in speech/forensics, state champion play production, marching band, honors programs, etc.).

I understand that this program is extremely selective... based on the information given, do I have a chance? Additionally, are there any other Emory scholarships that would provide a full scholarship or anything close to this? I really don't know that much about this and was hoping someone out there would have an idea.

Thank you so much for your help!

Yes, you have a shot, but your chances are as limited as others who will be applying. The competition is ridiculous, and I’m sure they’ll be taking fit and yield into account as they did this past cycle. So not only do you need that amazing track record you have, but you need to seem as if you fit somewhat into Emory’s environment such that you seem as if you’d take Emory serious if you won. There are other scholarships that give significant monies that are typically based on talents/interests (such as the liberal arts scholarship) in specific areas or volunteerism/community service (often these come with strings such as it being advantageous to be from a certain region of the US or even within Georgia). Some are offered as options to scholar finalists and some are offered “on the side” separate from that system (as in, adcoms notice your potential, and then award or contact accordingly).

Okay, that makes sense! Thank you for your reply!

You can also apply to the Oxford Scholars program which is less competitive and involves starting at the Oxford campus. But if you expect a good school to give you a full-ride, you should apply widely.

Even if you don’t get the scholars program, you can still get a scholarship. I received a $15k annually from Emory with a 29 ACT and 3.7 gpa and I am not a minority. Just pay particular attention to the essay, I think that’s the way I even got some money
