Am I ready for more difficult science classes?

I am new here, so first of all, hello everyone!

This past year (my sophomore year), I felt I took many academic risks. I have never been the best academic student, getting about a B average. Still, many of my freshman teachers recommended harder courses for my sophomore year. Specifically, my freshman Bio teacher recommended that I take honors engineering and honors chemistry at the same time. I think she did this partially because I found biology extremely easy and she knew my dad is an engineer and could help me with that class. I took on this course load pretty well, maintaining my B average (B+ in engineering, B- in chem)

I’m running into an issue this year as both my science teacher submitted recommendations for very hard courses for my junior year. My engineering teacher signed me up for AP environmental science and my chemistry teacher recommended honors physics. I’m not sure whether I should drop one class or take them both. And if I only take one, which should I take?

There is only one environmental science teacher at my school and I know her pretty well (she was my biology teacher) I like her teaching style. I’m just worried about taking an AP class. I’ve never done it before and don’t want to have to give up my extracurriculars in order to study. This class has a summer assignment, so I guess I need to decide what I’m going to do quickly.

I don’t know any of the physics teachers at my school and I heard that honors is still really hard even though it’s not AP. I also heard it’s a lot of math and I’ve never been very good at math. My dad says he uses physics a lot at work and could help me study. He wants me to take both classes, but I’m not sure I’m ready. My GPA (unweighted) is a 3.2 and that is with honors classes. I have no idea how much extra work goes into an AP.

AP Environmental Science is considered an “easy AP.” It’s considered, in my opinion, an honors course.

Honors Physics is a really good course to take, regardless of what you want to be when you grow up. Personally, if you are not taking ANY AP courses next year, then take AP Environmental; get in the attitude of taking an AP. If you are taking other AP courses. Definitely take Honors Physics, and if you plan to be an engineering major, take AP Physics C next year.

Btw, find out about the Honors Physics teacher to get a heads up on what the year is going to be like. Do it with all your future teachers, it helps soooo much.

I would take Honors Physics if you are thinking about STEM…Physics is alot of math but really it is algebra (for honors physics) with word problems. What Math are you going to take?
