Hey, So I sent in my application last week, and I am starting to worry about my chances again...college ******* has ucsc listed as a low target/high reach which I thought was surprising.

My Stats:

Iranian Male
Weighted GPA 10-11 Grade: 3.67
Rank: Top 30%
SAT I: 1820
SAT IIs: Bio-610, US History-540, Math II-530

I applied for bioengineering as my primary major and health sciences as my back up.

EC's + Awards + Leadership:

secretary treasurer for the stock Market Analysis Club - 3 years
Volleyball - 3 years
Model UN Captain
Youth Action Council Volunteer
Summer Bio Technology Camp

NCS Scholar Athlete Award
Volleyball Coach's Award
Academic Achievement Award

I hold the title of "Manager" as the store I work at
1 year of leadeship at my high school
Most Improved Student (Freshman year)

I have taken three college courses at my local community college

My summer project includes starting up a Charity with Micro-financing by incorporating the school's Stock Market cub.

I know for a fact that my essays were solid, I worked over a month on them, and had them read by almost everyone I could.

Should I be nervous? I applied to Riverside too, did I make a mistake not applying to Merced?

well it is a uc, so its tough to get into, but if you are going to get in with a lower gpa around 3.5 than its going to be with tons of e.c. and a good personal statement.

good luck you look like you are in good shape for a chance

Engineering is competive I believe however you similiar stats that I have last year and I got in so I think you have a pretty good chance. Average GPA weighted I believe is 3.5-3.7 and SAT score average is about 1770 so I think you have a good chance.

I figured the bioengineering major is competitive, which is why I am so worried. My alternate major is health sciences. UCSC is my number once choice; so I’m hoping for the best.

gahhhhh i’m just so nervous!!! I think the health sciences major is competitive, but not at competitive as bioengineering. I feel like im right on the border.

Cutoff was 5,425. By my count you have around 5,460. For leadership I have heard they only count positions of P or VP and you had to have been in that position for at least 2 years to get points. Your major doesn’t affect your admissions unless it’s impacted, but the first to become that are usually the engineering ones so…your on the edge

Honestly, if you are have Riverside as a backup then your fine because along with UCM they accept anyone that has a pulse pretty much. If you meet the 3.0, 1510 requirements then your in to either of those two schools.

Although last year there were quite a few people who got in through appeals.

Also, some people who have “bad stats” getting in, does not mean that a school is more or less selective. There are more aspects looked at, it isn’t just GPA and SATs/ACTs.

aleiram: i’m sorry, but they accepted close to 80% of applicants last year. i don’t personally think that’s selective. BayKid, you should get in with your stats

they say major doesn’t though I believe it does a little >.<. Well for engineering it does, i believe u have to get in their engineer school also (least for other UC).

I was actually wondering for UCSB.
My stats are solid enough to feel comfortable enough about UCSC, but I’m on the edge for SB, and declared biochemistry. So if major choice mattters, I’m prob screwed :/
