If you’re perfectly happy with a 4 or 5 year old computer then it doesn’t make any sense to spend tons of money when you do get something new.

I’d get a Apple laptop because, I still have my iBook G3 from 2001. Macbooks are sexy, especially the Pros.
My iBook G3 still works ok, it takes about 5 minutes to load Facebook. It’s just a guest room laptop so I don’t care.

What are you using the laptop that requires the high powered specs? Unless you’re gaming or doing a large amount of video or photo editing (not just the occasional dabble in photoshop) you don’t need a $2000 laptop. Don’t forget as well that every college has a computer lab that will fun any application you throw at it.

I’d buy a 400-500 computer maybe this: [HP Pavilion g6 and g6t series | HP Official Store](http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=Everyday+computing&series_name=g6t_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/Everyday_computing/g6t_series)

If you need to upgrade in 24 months because this laptop can’t run something, buy another 400-500 computer that will be much faster and almost have the same amount of computing power as the $2000 computer you’re thinking about and you saved $1000!
