So I began community college immediately after high school and was doing fairly well. Up until this semester, I had around a 3.4 GPA.

This semester, however, was a different story. My addict, mentally-disturbed brother moved home and my health was just in awful shape. There was not a week where I would go without some kind of health issue; one of my doctors suggested I may even have MS (I went to a neurologist, who told me it probably wasn't that, but he didn't have a precise answer as to what was wrong, which has given me a lot of anxiety). My brother moving home was worse. He had the most outrageous episodes of insane behavior, which made me into an emotional wreck because I was so worried about him. In addition to that, I was dealing with some very personal issues I don't even feel comfortable describing online. So I wasn't even fractionally surprised when my therapist told me (the entire situation made me go back into therapy) I was battling depression and that I had all the symptoms of it.

So it wasn't the ideal academic situation, needless to say, and my GPA just tanked. I dropped two classes hoping to help the stress of it all, but my current GPA is now around a 2.8.

Because I was battling depression for virtually the entire semester as well as health problems, is there any way I can do something about this? Some of the health problems were cognitive, such as constant lightheadedness, memory loss, inability to focus, and fatigue. Is there anything I can do? Maybe get the bad grades changed to medical W's with a doctor's or therapist's note? Email my professors? As dramatic as it sounds, I don't want one bad semester to impact my life or my chances to get into a good grad school. If anyone could offer me some advice as to what to do, I'd really really appreciate it. Thanks everyone!!
