I know a high GPA is a VERY important thing for competitive Colleges and last semester screwed me over because I got a C for the VERY first time!!! I had a 3.6 Weighted GPA (a lot of B's Sophmore Year :( ) but it raised toa 3.7 this semester because of the weightage but still colleges will see the C in AP Bio and im afraid they will reject me because of this. Do you guys think that if i got a kick butt GPA this semester that they will reconsider that C? I am in a very tough decision right now and had to eliminate some of the Colleges on my College list like John Hopkins, Cornell, and CalTech.

I was also wondering if you can tell me if i can get into these colleges with that GPA, being a Chem or Chem Eng. Major and the following:
Projected SATs: 700s Math, 600 Critical Reading, hopefully reach a 600 in writing...

10th - Member of Key Club
11th-Secretary Key Club
12th(maybe) - President of Key Club
State Champ for Tae Kwon Do (10th) and going to Nationals this Summer (if i get a gold hopfully that will raise my chances).
10th-11th - Member of California Scholarship Federation
11th - American Cancer Society
11th - Make a Wish Foundation

Right now i feel a lot better about my grades but I still regret of procrastinating a lot throughout my high school carrer...

Could you list your class rank? If it is out of the top 10% your chances at most UCs & other equivalent schools are fairly slim w/o something to set you apart (really good sats, sports, ec's etc). But the class rank is the big question mark right now; if you can post that up I'll see if I (or someone else) can help you.

Yes it does, if you don't get a 5.0 on a 3.0 scale, you will fail out of the Lumberjack Academy. World reknowned for best lumberjacks. I would recommend you get your act together. Damn overachievers make it more difficult for the rest of us normal people to get into certain schools.

I've had 10 C's, 50 D's, and 35 F's. I got accepted to MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Johns Hopkins! How? It's all about the chopping. They recruited me for my expertise in the area of lumber. I won 5602834 1st place medals from all of my lumberjack competitions. I've only competed in 5602834 competitions, so my record is outstanding. As for you, you won't be able to chop down one tree with grades like those. Remember one thing: It's all about the chopping.

YOU BUM! I'VE HAD ENOUGH WITH YOU OVER-ACHIEVING PEOPLE. ONE C!!! OMG! OMG! MY LIFE IS OVER AS WE KNOW IT... MINE AS WELL BURY ME NOW! ok.. enough with the caps.. honestly, my friend, if you feel that some B's and ONE C will "ruin EVERYTHING", then you are foolish. AP Bio is an extremely difficult course. Do me a favor, stop whining and just deal with it. What's the point of complaining to some other people over the internet, if you KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO GET HAMMERED WITH INSULTS!!!!

And yes, it IS all about the chopping. I'd recommend you speak with my good friend david king about the subject. He is a wood-chopping mastermind and knows everything about the great art of woodcutting.

Christ, I have had enough of this stupidity. You gloat about all your knowledge and good grades, yet you ask retarded questions like this. You don't deserve to get into any top school if you're complaining over one C.

My Unweighted is like 3.4 or something... Can anyone list the chances of getting into the schools that i listed??? I just want to know and i think im top 15% right now not really sure but ill check. I'm working my butt off to get better grades so yea...

Don't let these guys give you a tough time. If you manage the 1900 on the SATs I am pretty sure you will get into at least 1 UC (I'd say more but I don't want to promise anything). You're in good shape...i think you have a good shot at say UCI.

don't listen to the idiots in the middle of the post...there's nothing wrong with being concerned about grades and wanting to apply yourself and reap the rewards. Boston University is a definite match/safety, and it's a nice school, too, in a great city (a little far from home, i'm assuming...) Carnegie is a reach, U Rochester is a safety, you might want to reconsider putting Cornell on the list- it might be a nice reach if you like it a lot (it is a very nice school, just be prepared for SNOW), otherwise, I wouldn't know much about those california schools, just because I know I would never go across the country for college.
your GPA is the least of your worries at this point because you can't really have any affect on it, so all you can do is accept it, pretty much, and just know that colleges can't tell who you are compared to other kids from other schools because grading is different at every school. A "C" in French at "Snooty Rich Kid Academy" is DEFINITELY not the same as a "C" in French at "Homeless Joe's Learnatorium," so colleges can't judge you solely on your GPA.
good luck!

What if I'm in California does that raise my stats of the UCs and Cal Polys? Because I'm in California right now but i wish to go to the East Coast if i had to especially New York.

Tomiodotcomio - Are you sure about Cornell? because All the ppl on this site have like 4.5 GPAs and I don't so i dont think that i would have a chance...

cornell is reknowned for being the ivy that OTHER kids can get into...just as long as they work their butts off once they're in. it would still be a reach, but not as much as you might think, so if you have ivy dreams, cornell is the place to fulfill them.
