To start off, i'm a chem engineer major and want to take 4 classes in my first year/quarter. I wanted to ideally take Chem 6a, MAE 9, Math 20C, and the warren writing class which I hear everyone dreads for some reason, so might as well get that out of the way, right?

I signed up for Math 20C and Writing with ease, no waitlists and what not. However, for Chem 6a and MAE 9 I'm on the waitlist. (10th for Chem 6a, and 20th for MAE 9).

The worst scenario that I have going in my mind right now is walking into SD with only 2 classes and not being a full-time student and completely getting screwed for financial aid since I'll be considered "part-time." What should I do regarding registering for classes at the moment?

I've heard from people that I should just walk into the classroom on the day I start and I will most likely get a spot. However, I'm really not sure about that. I really don't know what to do. Should I just leave my registration as is? with 2 enrolled and 2 waitlisted?

Not to bash your replies, they're really great replies and give me more optimism, but no one answered whether I should just leave my web registration as is right now with 2 enrolled and 2 waitlisted or should I sign up for something else?

i'd say keep them. its very simple to add a class after courses start, just scout for ones that you'd potentially want to go to and make sure u sit in the first lecture. keep the 4 u have, go to all those classes. chem6a should work out, i dunno abotu mae9 but if it doesnt then u can just drop it and add into the spare class u scouted. theres lots of classes you wont really need to pre-register for, such as gen-ed classes for your area specialization. those always ahve room for adds.

I was in a similar situation as you, (2 classes for sure, 2 classes waitlisted) and I asked the counselors both online and on the phone. They said make sure you have 12 units for sure. So even though I wanted to take a class I was waitlisted #3 for, they said to drop it and sign up for a sure course. They said it was risky to be only in 2 classes.

I think you should talk to the counselors though, since eveyrones situation is a little different.

I'm still waitlisted for Chem 6A, but like other people have said, they're probably going to be opening another section.
However, you might want to check WebReg again. I was waitlisted #9 and this morning I saw that there was another chem discussion i could get into that was only #7 because I guess some people dropped it. I heard that your waitlist position matters for registering for the chem class they're going to open so I switched. I don't know if its true, but it couldn't hurt, right?

Really? because I don't see it on the list. (Is it one of those things where the waitlisted people got emailed the section ID? if it is will you post it)

I needed Chem6A too but I'm waitlisted (#2). In order to be a full time student and receive the full amount of Finaid, I took a Music class just in case Chem doesn't fall through. A new discussion for Chem 6A for Johnson opened up on September 3rd at 11AM and was full at 1PM. I missed it because I wasn't at home =/
