Am I screwed or not?

Well, I finally and gladly sent in my acceptance coupon and $400 deposit. As you might already know, there was a little envelope with address written on it.

I believe it read "Undergraduate Admissions Office, Cornell University, PO BOX 516, Ithaca, NY 14851". Can anyone confirm it? I might be wrong. I will be gladly wrong in this case.

But on the little piece of paper that was once with the acceptance coupon (and we cut it out), the address is "Undergraduate Admissions Office, Cornell University, PO BOX 516, Ithaca, NY 14851-9830"!!!

Does that "9830" make a lot of difference?

PS: How long is the winter vacation? I am thinking of spending Christmas days with my family in Mongolia.

The U.S. Postal System is a bit redundant. The 9830 is simply a number to help the Post Office sort mail quicker. It is not necessary that you write it in for them.

Congrats on your decision to attend Cornell.

Christmas vacation is 5 weeks.

Here's the academic calendar if that helps you. Your last day for the semester will be your last day of finals.Cornell University - Academics - Academic Calendar

You've really never come across the 4 digit extension to the zip code? Zip codes are broken down into smaller areas with them, presumably to make mail delivery easier. However it isn't required and I never use it and all my mail gets delivered.

So I do not have to get worried, right?

PS: It says in my FA letter that I am offered a transition allowance and winter expense. Does transition allowance mean an air ticket? Also can I use the winter expense for buying air tickets to Mongolia? Or should I only use it if I stay at Cornell during Christmas vacation?

Congrats on your decision! I kinda remember you were in a dilemma a while back ago. I am also anxious about Cornell as a new environment since I am from Southern California. But I guess I can't whine since ur coming from a different country, Mongolia! Congrats again!

Congrats, you made the right decision in coming to Cornell.

I have got another question. Should the acceptance coupon and deposit be delivered to Cornell by May 1 or does it just have to be postmarked before May 1?

postmarked

since you do live in Mongolia, I would e-mail the admissions office and verify that "postmark" is the correct answer to your question - it is true for US citizens but since this is indeed important to you - please verify with someone who knows the answer for your situation and not just rely on random answers on a chat line...

Thank you, memphismom. I e-mailed them 2 days ago, and just received the reply. It says it should be postmarked before May 1.

Great! good luck!
