Okay... in the world of ivy-league go-getters, anything less than PERFECT is completely unacceptable... I'd say my standings were pretty decent. While not into the HYP ordeal, I did consider Cornell, NYU, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Boston U, etc.

Then came Pre-Calc... For the third marking period I recieved a C... not too bad of a C (an 83) but a C nonetheless. Now, my GPA as of the end of sophomore year was 99.4 (w), 96.9 (uw), my grades were actually increasing this year, and my second lowest after that 83 is a 90 on a midterm.

I know this sounds absolutely ridiculous, but in my mind, everyone applying to these schools have straight A's, nothing that low, etc. etc. etc. How much will that C factor into my admission to any of those places? I don't think too much considering all my other grades, and that I'm just being an anal loser, but honestly, you never know with all the cancer-curing prep school kids en route to Harvard.

BTW, all AP and honors classes in high school, with one mandatory 'regular' class freshman year, steller EC's, leadership junk, SATs are on par with the school averages.

Input please. Even if it's mean. I deserve mean :(

You guys can correct me if i'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that they have ways of converting the out of 100 gpa into the normal 4.0 scale. It will hurt your chances but I don't know by how much if your test scores are good...

Edit: Actually, I think that your class rank would be more indicative of how much that will hurt you. As long as your in the top 5% or 10% you shouldn't be too bad off.

One C shouldn't hurt that bad. Especially if you work hard and get a A-B the next semester.

If you show passion for the subjects you like (probably non math related), they'll understand a low grade in math. Just don't let this grade get you down, keep working hard and the colleges will notice that.

Good, good... that's what I hoped. It's so strange cuz the 83 is so random...
First marking period was a 95, second 97... midterm was an exempt, and then an 83? It's the trig chapters that did it... I hate trig.
