Am I Screwed?

Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem and I’m not sure how severe it is. I was recently accepted to MIT/Caltech/a couple other great schools, but I just realized that I accidentally ordered the AP English LITERATURE exam and not the AP English LANGUAGE exam.

At first, I thought this wouldn’t be a big deal, but I just got an email from Caltech saying that " the Admissions Committee expects your courses and exams to be completed as you presented them in your admissions application." Since I am currently taking AP English Language, I conveyed intention to take the AP English Language exam.

How screwed am I, and how can I fix the situation? The email also says that I should contact my Regional Admissions Counselor if there are any problems/changes. Will this also be an issue for most schools? Thank you for taking the time to consider my situation.

I would 1) see if you can still sign up for or switch to the English Language AP Exam and 2) if not contact the regional admissions counselor.

Many schools don’t seem to care if you take AP exams or not but you have to look at the requirements of each college.

Contact the College Board, pretty sure they can change your test, even if they charge an extra fee. Contact the schools if you can’t change the test. People make clerical errors. Trying to hide things from schools that can easily replace you is not a good idea (lying is worse than a goofy mistake)

Thanks for the quick reply. Not to sound panicky, but do you think something like this could warrant getting rescinded? Thanks again.

Given that you can’t even get credit for AP classes at Caltech, it won’t be a big deal. Simply email the admissions office, explain what happened, and I’m sure they will say the same thing.

It’s not too late to order AP tests. They have make up tests of it comes to that. Can your AP coordinator order for you? Good luck.
