My previous post on this subject took me 20 minutes to type (and resembled a decent application essay), I clicked "Sumbit New Thread" and it was subsequently eaten by the internet. Here is the abridged version:

I am currently applying to schools and I am worried about my situation.

Hard Facts/timeline:

Had a hard time in middle school (physically and verbally harassed for a number of different reasons). Moved to a new area just before high school started and knew nobody, had a hard time adjusting to the move due to a pretty hostile family environment.

First semester freshman year was stellar - Varsity Lacrosse, JV Hockey (Captain), improv comedy team, chamber choir, district honor choir, drama club, surf club, participation in every single school production (play), all honors classes with pretty good grades.

Parents got divorced, diagnosed with major depression and bipolar disorder. (The divorce wasn't the sole cause of my emotional and psychology instability so don't think im some hypochondriac who ran for the hills when some little incident.)

Sophomore year - pretty much gave up - no sports, grades plummeted(many cs and ds), kicked out of ap classes for not doing any work, but maintained my involvement in theatre

Switched to an independant study program/college courses at a local community college. Recieved As in every class since the move to the program, but I missed a semester when I switched thus I will graduate in 5 years rather than 4.

Sat scores -
First time with no prep- 640 reading/writing, 650 math
I have done a decent amount of prep for my second try this fall, So I imagine I could easily add about 40-60 points to each.

I have extensive background in theatre and the extracurriculars to back it up, but academically I am a mess. I imagine that I will get less emphasis on my academic background as a theatre major, but I am concerned regardless.

I am really just wondering if my ability to bump a 2.2 up to a 3.6 will make up for my utter failure the first two years of school (and the fact that I'm not in a normal school presently).

The schools I'm applying to aren't exactly safety schools:
USC
NYU
CMU
DePaul
Northwestern
Emerson

--among many others

Basically I am asking all of you what you think of my situation, and what advice you have for me. Thank you in advance for your help and guidance.

P.S. Please forgive the rambling in this post, I was a little ticked that my eloquent version was trashed.
