Am I screwed..?

CALC BC 5
PHYSICS B 5
CHEM 5
STATS 5

and

ENGLISH COMPOSITION.. 2

I came to America two and half years ago..
I actually got A- in the class (our school's pretty easy), but our teacher never prepared us for AP exam, and I never studied for it...

Is getting a 2 really bad????
I mean, are colleges going to wonder, "Hm. He got A- in class, but 2 on AP test."
These 5 tests were my first ap tests..
My reach schools are UCLA, UCB, Stanford, Princeton, Duke, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Williams.. (You guys may laugh at me)
My rank is 5/600, highschool in Southern California
My intended majors are Engineering or Mathematics..

I'm not asking if I can still GET INTO these schools with this AP scores.. Because I know SATs, GPA and APs are not only things colleges look at.
I'm just asking, if there still stands a CHANCE for top tier schools even if I've failed English AP test. In other words, should I even consider applying??

Yes a 2 is really bad and no you do not stand a CHANCE for top tier schools. Sorry.

puggly the WHAT?! I was joking, by the way. Your 2 should have little to no impact on your admissions, even to top tier schools. They will take into consideration your 5’s, in my opinion, which should balance things out if things were ever unbalanced in the first place. Like lemone (the nice guy below me) said, get high SAT II’s as those are the tests that actually matter for sure in the admissions process.

Ignore puggly the ■■■■■■■, AP scores does not affect admission. Work on your SATs

seeing that you got 5’s on so many other tests, i would say you still have a chance. then again, it also depends on your sat’s, extra curriculars, outside work, gpa (which im sure is good since you’re #5). you still have a shot, and you dont even have to send in your 2 (unless you put that on your exam before)

Yeah dude. You still got a shot. Good luck.

I don’t think one 2 will kill your chances of getting into a good school. Good luck  Just keep working hard and don’t get any more 2’s. The rest of your app, as long as it’s good, can really just weigh out that one 2.

Also, this is a good experience, it taught you that when you have a bad AP teacher that teaches you nothing…either don’t take the AP test or self-study a lot, study really hard.

Thank you for all the encouragements ! I have good SAT II scores (770~800) for Math, Physics, and Chem.
The Best thing I can do now is ace the SAT I’m taking in October…
And yeah, I shouldn’t get any more 2s… I’m little worried about AP LIT for next year though haha!

Look, you’re majoring in Engineering/Mathematics, which are much more science-related than English/history-related (I guess you could call those Liberal Arts). I’m not saying you should ignore English since you want to do science, but the 2 won’t hurt you nearly as much as it would someone that’s looking into an English or history major.

I’m sure the admission committees will realize that you came to the US 2.5 years ago and probably admire your willingness to take a class in a language that probably wasn’t your native one, anyway.

You don’t have to send your AP scores…they could potentially never know about it.

Can I only send good scores and not send English?? Is that allowed??

^Yeah. All of your scores will be sent for one fee, unless you pay an extra $10 to withhold one score. It’ll cost $20 to withhold 2 scores, etc.

thats not true. I was wrong before as well. Thats the case for right after the ap and you want a score withheld. You have to send that by June 15th. AP score reports are cumulative. But you don’t send them until after you have already gotten into college so it shouldn’t affect your acceptance…

DON’T WORRY!!! :)

Speaking of which, I need to go send my AP Scores to colleges…

^That’s not true. That deadline’s for cancelling a score, not withholding. You can withhold from any score reports whenever you send them for a fee.

Now I’m confused … So I don’t need to send the colleges my ap scores? Then I can’t inform them about my good ones UNTIL I get admitted?? Or does it mean I can inform them, but I have to pay extra money to hold English score??

^If you pay the standard fee, they send all of your scores, so you can inform them. You can withhold your english score for a fee. Probably $10.

On your application, you self-report your scores (I think they require all of them). You don’t need to send them the actual score report for a fee from College Board. I don’t believe that scores matter to much in admissions. After you are admitted and choose your college, then you send in your official scores to them to place out of intro classes. Then you can withhold scores from the official report for $10 each, but it doesn’t really matter since they will only help you not hurt you for class placement.

Should I send the score for admission or wait until I get admitted to any of the universities???

You don’t need to send any scores yet (I am assuming you are going to be a senior). There is a section on the application that you just type in your AP scores. Then once you choose your college, you can directly send your AP scores on your scantron on your first AP exam next year.

Do I also have to type in the ones I did not pass? Or do I get to choose which ones I can put in?
If I don’t put in the score, they would assume I did bad anyway, right?

I would just write-in your scores on the application. It won’t make too much of a difference (if any).
