Am I setting myself up for disaster?

Next I'm looking at going to Michigan State as an out of state student. My parents said they'd pretty much pay for my housing/food throughout college.

This still comes out to about with about $80k in tuition to pay total. After financial aid, I'm guessing I'll still have another $40-50k to pay between working, scholarships, and private loans.

Anyone know any scholarships for straight up normal people? I'm half white and half korean, 3.4 and 23 ACT.

Am I simply out of my mind though for wanting to taking this much money out for college? I'm intending on majoring in computer science there with a specialization in video game programming, so my pay out of college won't be too bad I'm guessing.

Michigan State really is my dream school though, at least for me. It just seems like the right place and I'm afraid I might be making a big mistake.

Yea dude trst me you are not alone. Especially for us coming from wisconsin where the only real QUALITY, affordable school is UW-Madison (Or Minnesota I guess) which is one where average students dont have chance of getting in and above average students get postponed and than probably get their heart broken (like i might :(). Gotta love wisconsin…

what I am doing/did was set my standards a little slower and have more an open mind as to where to attened and applied to a bunch of schools accross the midwest and northeast..and now im just gonna wait and see who gives me the most aid financially. So if I were you man..I would set my hopes up too high on MS so taht you wont be dissapointed if you figure you cant afford it.

i applied to wisconsin, uw-eau claire, brigham young university, michigan state, and minnesota.

i got denied from wisconsin. accepted to michigan state and eau claire. then waitlisted by byu and minnesota. I’m not really interested in byu or eau claire. Then minnesota, the whole crime thing there isn’t very appealing. I don’t think i’m ready for the big city there either.

It just seems like I’m screwed

you can always go to milwaukee for a year or two and than transfer to michigan state ( that way you save yourself some money)

I would never go to Milwaukee. I’m considering doing duel enrollment for classes during the summer.

edit: My parents live in milwaukee, which is one primary reason I wouldn’t go there. My sister also goes to school there. I really just want to get out of the whole wisconsin area though.

Yea I know what you mean dude…My parents are telling me..If you dont get into Madison than just go to milwaukee and than tranfer. I hate this town with a passion..there is no way I could survive another year in this dump. So we got something in common here. I got the same situation as you but with Ohio State…I get in…im happy…but than im like …crap…now how the hell do i pay for this?

Im thinking if we go for a good major that will yeild us a high paying job than it’d be worth to go in debt…

you should definately try for the gates millenium scholarship if you do it online you have until january 11. since you’re half korean then you’re eligible. i have the same stats as you and thats what i’m really praying for.

I won’t meet the qualifications for gates. My parents make too much to qualify for a pell grant
