Am I still able to apply EDII if I get accepted into my EDI college?

As the name suggests, I was wondering if I am still allowed to apply for my Early Decision II college if I get accepted into my Early Decision I.

I was just accepted into University of Rochester today but I was looking forward to applying to NYU in January (Early Decision II application deadline is January 1st). NYU is definitely my higher choice between the two but the reason why I didn’t apply for Early Decision I is because I still needed time to finish my portfolio, since I will be majoring in Game Design at the Tisch School of Arts.

Please let me know how this works and whether or not I should continue focusing on my ED II application. Thanks!

If your ED1 school’s ED is binding and you were accepted, you’re done. You’ve committed to attending unless the financial package is insufficient.

The answer to your question is no. You are locked into Rochester (great school by the way).

No, you can not apply EDII to NYU after having been accepted to Rochester in the ED round.

Your ED acceptance to Rochester is binding…you, your parents and your GC signed a document which says just that. The only reason you can break the binding nature of Rochester’s ED commitment is if the financial aid package is insufficient. And if it is insufficient, do not apply to NYU EDII because their financial aid package will likely be worse.

Did you read the ED agreement before you signed it and applied to URochester ED? Unless the school is unaffordable (in which case you need to decline the ED acceptance right away) you have committed to attend URochester.

You are done with the college admissions process and have a great outcome. Congratulations.

You will not be majoring in Game Design at the Tisch School of Arts. You’re going to University of Rochester. It’s binding. There’s no requirement to apply anywhere ED1. You are allowed to apply just ED2 and RD. But that ship has sailed. Congratulations! You’re going to a great school!

The bad news is no, you cannot apply anywhere else unless you can’t afford to attend Rochester.

The good news is that you are going to a great university in September. Congratulations!

Plan to work hard and stay ahead in your classes, always attend all classes and pay attention, I expect you to do very well.

Thanks for the replies! A little disappointed but at least it means I don’t have to worry about any more applications from now on haha.

You are WAY better off at University of Rochester than at NYU. Turned out well for you.
