The financial aid portals for the colleges I have been accepted to show that I am still missing some documents. My mom still needs to do her tax documents and I have to a submit noncustodial parent waiver for each school. But I did finish my FAFSA and CSS on time. My acceptance letters did not come with any financial award letters because I have not finished, but does this mean I am no longer eligible or will they send a separate financial aid email/mail once I have finished?
Most schools have deadlines for either receipt of the non-custodial parent form…or,the waiver. Did you miss those deadlines? And if so…why?
Until you have all of your documents to the college, your application for institutional aid is incomplete.
You will have to contact the colleges to see what that means for you at this point.
It took a while to gather all the necessary forms that I think would be helpful in explaining my situation. My family is also not good with English, so it was difficult trying to find the documents and convince them that I needed those documents.
I don’t want to come up with excuses because I know it was irresponsible to go past the deadlines, but I am wondering if colleges do allow this?
It is likely - but not guaranteed - that your award letters will simply be delayed. You should contact each school and ask. It’s the only way to know for sure.
But you have another problem also. The schools to which you’ve been admitted each have a deadline for accepting their offer of admission. How are you going to decide if you haven’t received your award letters yet? What this means is that you need to finish all your financial aid applications now, so that you can get your award letters in time to make a decision.
Good luck!
Have your mom do her taxes asap. Get help from the colleges on what they need for the non custodial waiver. Good communication with the college FA office is helpful so you will get your award packages in time to decide before May 1.
OK, I contacted the colleges and they said to try and send them anyways. Does anyone know how quickly they approve the waiver and update the financial aid status?
Make sure younalsomsend all of the necessary documentation to the schools. The less they have to ask you for again…the quicker they can process all of this,
Just sent it all priority mail today, thank you for all the help. I will remain hopeful for now.
