I took my first SAT in January(680 M 560 CR 670 W), and I had the notion that I can take the SAT as many times as I want to and colleges won't look down upon it. Then I learned that they can look at your previous scores and taking it more than 3 times looks bad. I had already signed up for the March one though. I'm taking practice tests and I'm getting like 630-650s on CR, but I still feel that I shouldn't be taking it NOW, so soon since I can prepare more and have more opportunities to take it later.

I don't know if I should seriously consider moving this SAT to say May or something so I can prepare a little more. I wasn't thinking rationally when I decided to take it again before I even got my January scores(I figured they weren't great so I knew I would retake eventually), but never expected my CR to be a 560, and a month isn't enough to get that to my goal of 690. How much does it cost to reschedule your SAT? I can probably move it into May or June, but should I just see how I do even though I'm not close to my goal yet when I might only take it once after this one? This March one could even be a little lower than the January one, and of course more prepping can help.

People do say that sometimes their practice tests don't always reflect their scores, but if I can't get a good score on CR on the official practice test from CB tomorrow, then I might reconsider. Sure my parents won't be happy about spending $20 to do it, but I think it's for the best. I would put it off until May probably and take it in October(which I am trying to plan on not taking), and if for some reason I would need to take it after that, I would have November and December.

I think that I might change it because I am really not confident right now. Still, I don't want to miss out on an easy test if it is easy, but I don't want to get a bad score on CR because I have a feeling that it will be low like my 1st SAT. I want more opinions and if people did this type of stuff before because some stuff in the passages I might blatantly miss while sometimes I miss just miss a level 4 or 5 question. I know that I can get a 700+ in math, and I don't care about writing at all, but CR is definitely long term, and reading magazines and improving your reading is the best way, not just 1 month of practicing.

if you're a junior, just wait till june. if you're even younger, there's absolutely no reason why you should take it right now....you might as well wait for another year because it looks way better to get a good score in one shot.

I'm going to talk it with my parents, who won't be happy since they did sort of tell me to wait for the scores or take it later, but I insisted on taking it in March. Well there's $20 down the drain, and I'm going to feel pretty lonely and left out once test day comes lol.

Okay, we're moving it. Now I just have to decide between May 3rd and June 7th. I was thinking though that I could take the March and I could cancel them if I knew that they weren't good, but that would be pointless(since I wouldn't even see my score, it would be based off of how I thought I did). So between May and June, well, a month more is always better, but for some reason May sounds a little more promising to me even though it gives me a month less. What would you guys do?

I am in the same situation and I chose to leave March alone because it's not easy to increase your score so easily. It's a long term process. Now math is something that can be improved instantly if you closely read a book like Gruber's. On the other hand, Reading is basically knowing how to read, something you've been looking at your whole life. Go to your local bookstore and read everyday. Read magazines like National Geographic, Popular Science, Time, Life, Newsweek, etc. Try to get meaning out of the articles. The author is not objective all of the time, so try to find out his attitude. It's a LONG term process, so definitely postpone it. You may actually find June a little better, but just think of where you might be in 2 months. You've had 1 month to prepare for March(since you signed up for March after January), and you feel that you're not ready. You have 2 months from March to May. Maybe not as enough. 3 months is definitely great.
