Am I the only Californian interested.

Was accepted but DePaul is starting to feel more like a commuter school.

Anyone?

Hey there!

I made an account just so I could answer this question… I don’t know if you’re the only Californian interested, but I’m from Florida and I am definitely going to DePaul.

I visited DePaul’s campuses a few weeks ago for a scholarship interview, and I fell in love with everything about it. I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “commuter” - the student housing is right on campus… but it’s a huge, bustling city! Most students are out and about enjoying Chicago. Plus, the people I met were very friendly…

Anyways, I guess I just wanted to make sure you realized you’re not the only out of stater.

DePaul has a lot of commuters (me being one of them) but it’s worth considering that a lot of people live near campus as well. DePaul is the largest Catholic university in the country with about 16,000 undergraduate students. From my experience, most students either dorm or live in an apartment near campus.

I’m a Californian too and got accepted! Not sure if it’s the school I’m going to but I’m definitely considering it. So you’re not alone! :)

We are from CA also. We visited and loved the school. I wrote a full visit report on college visits - you might want to review those. DD is pretty set on going there - got a great scholarship and was impressed with the commitment to small classes taught by professors, the excellent business school, the friendly and comparably LARGE dorm rooms, and the overall positive feeling. It is definitely not a school for everyone - you are more like a city person going to college than a college student insulated in your own world. It is a great fit for my DD, but if you are looking for a school where you are surrounded constantly by students, and are somewhat separate from the community, this is not it.

And by the way, we paid $104 each way Jet Blue out of Long Beach to visit. It is a lot of money to go there and a huge investment of your time - you owe it to yourself to visit and spend the night on campus.

I’m from California too. I’ve never been to Chicago, but I’m visiting the school in a few weeks. It definitely looks like a big commuter school to me, but I figure it’ll be exciting to meet other out-of-state students who are in the same boat as me, so it shouldn’t be too bad.

maygunjones,
If you have been accepted, your parents can sign up for DePaul Quad. they have lots of hotel suggestions. If you use only a carryon, it is EASY to take the light rail to the downtown hotels - we paid $5 for two, and then just took a 4 block taxi ride to our hotel with our luggage. Beats $40 by taxi, and is sometimes actually faster according to the locals! I don’t know if this will get censored, but if you go to Trip Advisor dot com and look at Hotel Ideas for Visit to DePaul you will get a great thread on our trip with hotel and other ideas. Also be sure you request to attend a class and/or stay overnigiht in the dorm at least 2 weeks in advance - they are pretty booked especially this time of year and it was very helpful in making a decision.

Very helpful :]
Thank you so much!
