am i the only one who hasnt heard???

Seriously??? Does it mean I was rejected or should I just call the office tomorrow?

I haven’t heard back either… very weird. We should hear back by March 1st. I got into Penn State so I expect to get in. I hope that we did not get rejected because we haven’t heard yet. Has anyone else not heard yet?

My son was accepted into Penn State as well and still hasn’t heard from UConn.

you’re not alone, we’ve heard nothing from UConn

We haven’t heard yet either. UCONN said by 3/1, so don’t give up.

If you read other threads you’ll see you’re hardly the only one who hasn’t heard.

nothing from UConn yet for my son either. He got into 5 other schools & is still waiting to hear from UConn, University of Delaware, & Stony Brook. The wait is torture. Going to accepted student days at the other schools…

I haven’t heard either. I asked the same thing on another thread, “admissions portal” and someone On there told me its random, they spoke to and admissions counselor over at uconn. It doesn’t mean we’re denied

Doesn’t mean denied…at our high school around 100 students have applied and only 9 have been admitted so far. It is going to be a very busy week for decisions. Our admissions person and guidance counselor said it is random. Good luck to all.

My son, out-of-state, heard from UConn engineering two weeks ago. Perhaps, different UConn schools have different timetables.

Called UCONN about a different question yesterday and there was a recorded announcement before I was connected saying just that - no reason for the order of admissions - and that it would all be out by March 1. It definitely isn’t by school.

I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with whether or not you got in; just wait it out.

I see that a few mentioned that their DS or DD got into PENN St. That should not be a surprise it’s less selective and they can pull in more students. When your OFS it’s more money so they like your kids.

My DS went through this last year… I’m sure you all know that last year there was a record number of applicants. I’m quite certain they had the same this year. UCONN is no longer a safety school and in many respect it becomes really difficult for them to field a class.

Maybe this will help as another way to think of things. Lets say UCONN wants 1,800 for the class of 2017. They have 40,000 applicants. That alone is a tast. If UCONN made it easy on themselves and said just pull the top 1,800 kids think of the crazyness that would make.

There will be very high achieving kids, middle of the road kids and lower performing kids that do not get in. That being said there will be the same that do get in. But how to get that mix is the difficult part.

About a month after getting in (Class of 2016) my DS came home for a weekend. We had dinner and the conversation of “well how is it” followed. The very first thing out of my DS mouth was “Dad, I’m very luck that I got in, how they pick us has got to be a really hard thing to do.”

My DS was humbled and like wise we were as humbled. As a parent I have a great deal of respect for all you kids that wait and I have a great deal of respect for the parents that feel your pain. As parents we just want you to be happy. For some it will be joy for others it will be difficult. That being said never give up the dream because you can stiil get in. Yes, you may need to wait a year but you can get in.

We have other children, one of which is now looking at colleges. His SAT’s (way over UCONN’s expectations), class standing, vol. community work, sports and other items are equal to the oldest (academics are actually better). There is no way he is guaranteed to get into UCONN. It’s Feb. and we have alreay looked at 6 other schools. He wants UCONN but knows how hard it is to get in so he is not getting his hopes high on anything. Ughh…me either!!

I hope that you all get the grand news of getting in. Enjoy college no matter, meet new friends, spend our money, get the grades and then come to work and add value to your next community of choice.

Love life, live the dream, be happy, engage, and pay it forward!!

3unitsIlove - great message, especially the last few paragraphs. It’s a very stressful time. This is our second time through the college process (and last) and I am delighted that my daughter will be attending UCONN in the fall - by no means her safety school. In fact, we were pretty sure it was a reach after feedback about the last two years and rejections at our in-state hs.

One thing that was the same with both kids - when my son walked onto the campus he is currently attending, he knew it was a match. Same with my daughter. The stakes are higher emotionally when you connect, I think.

It’s almost March. Not much more waiting for everyone. Good luck!

Have they hit 40,000 already? I applied during the application spike due to switching to the Common App and they got 30,000 applications then.

This paragraph wildly misrepresents UConn admissions. The freshman class is a little over 4,000 students. They accept far more than 4,000 students since they have a 30% yield.

The spike in applications in 2011 helped drive the acceptance rate under 50%. Many Connecticut students can’t count on acceptance to Storrs, but it’s not as dire as you portrayed it. Connecticut students can still easily figure out where they stand among the applicant pool.

hey guys could you tell me my chances of getting accepted cause I still haven’t heard. I have a 4.0 gpa weighted, and 1700 SAT, 200+ hrs of community service, varsity lacrosse for 4 years, and I have had a job all throughout highschool. any feedback would be appreciated. thank you

SaintSaens,

Thank you for the response.

Respectfully, there was no misrepresents of UCONN admissions. I started by saying “lets say UCONN wants”. The 1,800 is a metaphor not a real number. I based the metaphor on the though of populating a class. In other words I was hoping to give the kids that wait some hope. There is no telling what UCONN is looking for in a class.

Example: Along with the other schools my DS applied to his reach, fly over, trip around the moon and back was YALE. I humored him and paid for the application fee…why not! As kids with off the chart stats and SAT’s were dropped he remained in the mix until the very end. I have no idea what they field for a class but to see him go through that, anything is possible. No, he did not get in but he was given every “chance.” It’s just a nice feeling for all these kids to know they all have a “chance”.

Great question but I have no idea if they hit 40k this year. While we were at parents day (or whatever it’s called) 40k was the number that was tossed out. It is a lot of applications to field, review and populate a class.

Cheers!!

I knew that the 1,800 figure was more for the purpose of giving a scenario. It still exaggerated how tough admissions can be. Admissions staff probably do accept the top 1,000 applications. It’s really the middle third of applications where making decisions probably becomes difficult.

Does anyone know if “denied” is posted online or sent by mail? We are still waiting also.
