This is not a chance thread insofar as I just want to know if my academic qualifications show that I am competent enough. I know acceptance or rejection is not guaranteed--I just want to know if I even show some kind of academic potential that is necessary at Princeton.

GPA:
Freshman: 3.5 ( I got a ton of A-'s and one B)
Sophomore: 4.0
Junior: 4.0
Senior: 3.78-4.0 (it depends on those rotten A-'s and maybe a B?)

Test Scores:
680 CR, 780 M, 760 W
33 ACT (36 E, 34 R, 32 M, 29 S)

Rank--not submitted but they're bound to realize I'm outside of the top 10% of my 50-person class.
Thank you!

Princeton doesn’t look at Freshman grades, so your GPA is perfectly fine. Your ACT is also fine for Princeton. And as far as rank is concerned, if it’s not on the transcript, there’s no way Princeton can know if your inside or outside of the top 10%, so don’t worry about that.

So basically what I’m saying is you’re not in the hole due to your grades and test scores. They are probably similar to the average Princeton applicant (like myself last year). Focus on the rest of your application and don’t worry about your test scores and grades. (a) They’re fine for Princeton and (b) it’s not like you can change any of them by this time anyway.

Apply and hope. You’ve got just as good of a chance as everyone else does.

Spiralcloud: if grades are the highlight of your application, then yes, those grades can hurt. Applications are judged holistically, so if you show a lot of aptitude in other areas and even have a few hooks, you have nothing to worry about. Best of luck :)

I think it is unlikely, unless you have stellar ECs and a compelling reason for Princeton to accept you. My S-top 5%, IB, 4.0 unweighted, 800/750/690 SAT1 760/770/780 SAT2s with lots of writing awards for NYS student newspapers was rejected last year…As for potential, that can not be measured, but of course you could succeed with the right work ethic…

your GPA is fine since, mentioned above, they dont consider 9th grade.
i would try to bring up your CR score if possible.
and the rest is gonna depend on interview/essays/ECs.
good luck :)

Your grades and score will get you considered, but you’ll need more than that to get accepted. It’s all about how you present yourself (essays) and what you’ve been able to do outside of schoolwork. Good luck! Even if you don’t get into Princeton, I’m confident you can get accepted to another great institution and have a great undergraduate experience.

thanks guys! I appreciate the replies (the not-so encouraging ones as well). As to wg’s question of why princeton doesn’t look at ninth grade grades…I have no clue!

Yeah, but I wasn’t really looking for chances. I find chance threads to be kind of useless cause I would be vigilant in the stuff I posted online. So, I just wanted to know if my application wouldn’t just be thrown out on the basis of my academic info.

It just depends on how you present your self. make your essays true. I got into my EA school with horrendous SAT scores, but my essays painted a better picture of who i was. So no they wont throw away your App just be unconventional but truthful in your essays.
