Am I understanding this correctly?

I made NMSF for 2019 so as long as I make NMF and list UF as my first choice it will essentially become a full ride with the Benacquisto Scholarship? As my major will be CS should I even consider applying to the honors college if I attend? Thanks.

Yes. I am in the process of finding out about NMF myself (I’m a year ahead of you). But yeah, that’s all you gotta do along with applying for Bright Futures. Definitely also apply to Honors College. It has some benefits, but is largely overhyped in my opinion (but still take advantage of it).

@AimingTop50 Great to hear thanks. What would be the advantages/benefits of the Honors College for CS?

Not too much… getting to live in a dorm with other Honors students and no communal bathrooms… and early registration for some classes

Is Windsor Hall an option for the Benacquisto Scholarship?

Sure, it’s not required that you live on campus. You can use your Benacquisto funds (and Bright Futures) to help pay for off campus housing. These funds will be used to first pay for tuition (and a meal plan, if you’ve selected one), then on-campus housing. After paying all of your UF charges, the funds are deposited in your bank account, where you can then use them to pay for Windsor Hall, etc.

@Gator88NE I’m a little confused sorry…you said “These funds will be used first to pay for tuition(and a meal plan, if you’ve selected one), then on-campus housing.” If I’ve already paid for on-campus housing then what does they mean? Also, are you saying there will be funds left over after paying for all the above? I thought the Banacquisto covers those cost to the exact so how would there be any money left?

Banacquisto pays COA (cost of attendance). The state will calculate the COA for that year, and then that’s what they pay. COA includes “expected” tuition, room and board, books, and “other” expenses. Here’s a link showing UF’s COA, lets use it as an example:

http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/cost/

UF’s is $21,130 a year. The “other” cost are $3,630 a year.

So, the Banacquisto $ will go to UF, which will use it to pay any cost/bills, and then they will deposit what’s left into your bank account. So, yes, there will be funds left over that go into your bank account.

You can find other threads in the UF forum on the Banacquisto that will go into a lot more detail.
