Hey guys am i wasting my time applying cornell AEM ED ? The only worthwhile thing I have is my hook. My transcripts doesn't contain a lot of A's. This is due to the fact that I only do well on a subject if I am passionate about it.

You have a very interesting hook which will elevate your application. However, your SAT I scores are concerning. And if you are applying as an international student, they may put your application at a higher standard than US citizens. AEM has always been one of those majors that is difficult to get in but easy to graduate.

I would suggest if you have time to retake and boost your SAT I’s.

Im going to retake my SAT 1 in december. I cannot take it before that due to my A-Level exams. My only concern is that they reject me directly when I apply ED.

Also I forgot to post my exam results. Though my transcript results are not that good since my school curriculum is really tough, i have some pretty good cambridge o-level results.
English- A*
French - A*
Maths - A
Add maths - B (Is an A- converted to american scale)
Physics - A*
Chemistry - A*
Computing - A*
English Literature - A

Below are my forecast results for A-Level (what my teachers)
Maths - A*
Computing - A*
Physics - A

French Sub - A (no A* for this paper)
General paper - A (No A* for this paper)
Btw A* is better than an A (If you guys don’t understand the GCE system)

Will those overshadow my generally bad transcript as I always get good results at the end of the day?

To understand the difficulty of the curriculum, those are my dress rehersal exam results :
Maths - B
Computing - A
Physics - D
French Sub - B
General paper - C

Yet see what they predicted I would get if I sat for the real exams.

Hmm. You might need to contact admissions office to see if they will take your new SAT I scores into consideration if you are doing ED. To my knowledge, ED acceptances (at least for US citizens) are usually handed out around late November to early December. If you take your SAT I’s on 12/1, you have to wait for a while to get your scores back, by the time you submit your new scores to Cornell, it may be too late.

Again, I would suggest contacting Cornell, since you are an international student, acceptance deadline may be different.

You should also look into stats of previous accepted international students. Like gpa, SAT I scores, etc. to give yourself a better idea of your acceptance rate.

At the end of the day, ask yourself if you really want to ED Cornell. If you feel like this is your dream school, then go for it. Cornell looks at the whole package of their applicants. Your gpa can be compensated by other areas like SAT I’s, extracurriculars, killer personal statement, etc.

renyun > Thanks for the advice. I have just emailed the admission staff. And Cornell is most definitely my first choice. Also where exactly can I find the stats of previously admitted intl students ? Is there a thread on CC for that ? I tried to search for one but in vain

Admissions decisions were communicated prior the release of scores for the Dec SAT last year and I would assume the same will be true this year. SAT scores are released 19 days after the exam date.

A good place to start would be through the Cornell website. They have a specific section for internationals. Another place to start is through a Google search. I’m sure you’ll find all the information from these sources.

Thanks guys for the support but suppose I don’t manage to raise my scores, will I still have a chance ?

Also keep in mind that my businesses have only been opened for less than 3 months so the $2m deal is quite a feat. (it is a one-time deal though). My next business starts in 2 years as i have to have offices built and so on. Then my business should make a profit of around $100k-$200k monthly.

Should I talk about those in my essays? Im asking before I haven’t done those yet and these are merely estimations

Definitely talk about your business in your essay. It doesn’t really matter if your business is a success or not but that fact that you were able to accumulate 2m. That is a feat that is unique for people our age. AEM is a business major, so they will definitely be intrigued by students like you.

Hard to say if you will be admitted if you don’t raise your scores. Based current stats, your SAT I scores are toward the lower percentile for US students who enter Cornell. So pure numerically, your chances are low.

However, numbers don’t always mean anything and we are not the admissions committee. If you apply you always run a chance of not getting admission, think of the worst scenario (not getting in) and ask yourself if you still want to apply.
