amazing body improvements

Just to show that it could happen to you....

As an 8th grader, I was 5'6" and weighed 170 pounds. I ate ice cream everyday, never played any sports, and never lifted any weights. My mile time was 16:23 that April, I did no more than 30 sit-ups in a minute, I never stayed on the bar for more than 0.5 seconds, and I was weak with a vertical jump of less than 10 inches. Finally I started playing basketball with intensity (but no skill) and got my weight down to 154 pounds by the summer.

In 9th grade, I was much more fit, but I continued to stagnate in some areas. I was still weak as hell (only a 14 inch jump) , although my flexed arm hang went up to 20 seconds, I finally passed the mile requirement for the state with an 8:25, and I had signed up to run xcountry the next year. It was during that summer I started lifting weights and running with more intensity. By working all lower body muscles, I actually saw something develop until I stopped lifting when school started. After 150+ hours of running by last October, I was at 145 pounds and 5'10". People were telling me I was anorexic, despite me feeling perfectly fine.

When I got cut from the basketball team, mainly for lack of athleticism, I re-dedicated myself to the weights for 4 intense months. After these 4 months (by April) I could squat 200 pounds...my bench press 10 rep max went from 45 pounds to 80 pounds, which may not seem like much, but I could hang for up to 55 seconds now. By the spring, my mile time was down to 5:59, my sit-ups shot up to 57 in one minute, and I actually GAINED enormous amounts of muscle mass. This summer I have seen that mile drop to 5:15, and that vertical jump is surely but slowly getting there (22 inches).

If you had a turnaround similar to the above...elaborate, bitte.

Mile time from 12-something down to 6-something, close to 7. Ran a lot, ate healthy, lost weight.

wow that's great guys. i've always been the same athleticism and body wise, except i was a 9lb13oz baby and now im thin haha

5'10 and 145 lbs is pretty small.

I was 6'3 220 lbs a couple of years ago, now I'm 6'3 195 lbs. While I have lost muscle (since I've quit football) my mile time is around 6 flat and my max bench press is 255lbs.

Well, now that I'm 5'11" and 160 pounds, I look a little bigger, especially when I wear shorts for some reason....might have to do with the calves.

I am 170 lbs and 5'7''...but i wanna change that.

My 1.5 mile time in middle school was 20 at the first meet. And then I cut it down to 13 in the next by running every night.

i went from benching about 100 lbs in 7th grade to benching 240 by the end of 8th grade. gotta love natural growth hormones.

I'm 5'10 and 120 lbs. In 7th grade I ran a mile in ~8 mins. By the end of 8th grade, I dropped it to ~6 mins. People call me "anorexic" but it's just because of my fast metabolism and I can't really do anything about it.

People misuse that term so often. I don't know about you, but it ticks me off. Thin does not mean anorexic. Furthermore, if an anoretic heard someone accusing a thin person of being anorexic it would really hurt. The person being accused may even be hurt as well.
Anorexia is a mental disorder, not how much body fat you have. How much body fat you have is relevant to anorexia, but it's not anorexia itself.
I just had to voice my irritation.

i'm 5'2 and 110 pounds...i'm trying to drop some body fat by running every day for the past few months. it's not working though. i don't eat that much fat--no red meat, no soft drinks, no snacking. but i'm just built to store fat on my abdomen. i'm gonna keep working on it.
and i liked the bitte :)

8th grade I was 5'9 165, then during the summer of my 9th grade year I had a growth spurt which increased my height to 5'11 and my wieght went down to 152 when i started running a mile a day, in 8th grade my mile was about 13mintues. Now summer before 12 grade my mile is about 7minutes, distance wise I can run 5 miles an hour and benchpress 115 lbs. 8th grades i had 30 percent body fat now i'm about 12 percent, stats now are at 5'11 close to 6'0 165pounds a good percentage of that is muscle.

185-187cm (no idea in english system) 230lbs. Off-season, will drop to 212 lbs -- my lucky weight for wrestling weight class of 192-215, weighted 212 during wrestling in 8th and 9th grades. As long as I can run three miles with sprints everyday I don't care how much weight I gain off-season :)
I'm basically loosing 20-30 pounds each year before and gain them after wrestling season.

I used to weigh 130 pounds in like 6th grade. Then one day, I started eating just a slice of bread for lunch and dinner and lost 20 pounds in around two months, and grew a couple of inches, 5' 4" now.

i used to weigh almost 130, at 5'1, which was purely fat because i have always had a tiny frame. i cut out garbage food, unhealthy snacks, and the likes, started exercising moderately and eating lots of fruit and veggies, and dropped 40 pounds over 6 months without really dieting heavily or anything, just by making better choices.

I'm in 8th grade, going to 9th grade in a month.
I'm 5' 8 - 5' 9" (excluding shoes :p), and I weigh around 115(?) - 120. I'm kind of a skinny-tall frame, but I have all my fat around my abdomen :( So I'm 5'8", 115, have these chopstick arms, pretty powerful quads and OK calves, pretty good looking, and a freakin potbelly rofl. I don't really eat any unhealthy foods, I barely eat anything at all, I'm vegeterian and Asian, and I'm just like what??? My mile time in 8th grade is ok I guess, around 8:30. What should I do?

you should do cardio and lift weights, and make sure to get enough protein. you sound like a healthy dude.

Do you think I should switch over to meat to get more protein?
Should I join a gym or somethin... ?

no need to join a gym. that's the thing about running--you can do it outside, it's more fun that way. and running outside is harder than running on a treadmill anyway. i guess you would have to join a gym to use weight equipment. but there are lots of strengthening exercises you can do at home with a set of dumbbells. google em.
you can definitely get enough protein as a vegetarian--nuts and beans and all that good stuff. athletes love peanut butter :) but it would be easier to get the protein from meat. chicken is good--no need to go hardcore and eat red meat.

I actually do run outside, like 1-2 miles with my dad. I've seen improvement in that I can run longer, and I have much better endurance, but no physical change. :p

About how much protein a day should I be aiming for, considering my age (13), body type and weight and stuff?
I love peanut butter too :p, but I'm far from an athlete. More of your math/science nerd lol
