I've been thinking about eating chicken, do you think its worth giving up being vegeterian for? Are there any cons to eating it? And in what form do you recommend it, being most healthy?

Well, you might be able to try soy things that look and taste like meat, but are soy (like soy hamburgers, and soy hot dogs).

I dunno how good they are though.

"I've been thinking about eating chicken, do you think its worth giving up being vegeterian for? Are there any cons to eating it? And in what form do you recommend it, being most healthy?"

Chaos Theory- Yeah, I really think it's worth giving up being a vegetarian. You'd literally have to eating insane amounts of beans or peanut butter or other things to make up the lack of meat in your diet. But that being said, you don't have to go all out and eat like giant steaks and things. Just have some boiled or grilled chicken breast and that should be pleanty. You should also try some like whey-protein powder that you put in fruit smoothies after you work out.I actually had a friend who was vegan, which is worse than being vegetarian (in my opinion), and she had really skinny arms and legs, and an absolutely giant stomach. I've also noticed a lot of vegans/vegetarians seem to have this body type and tend to be sort of flabby.

Yeah, it kinda sucks, I have to suck in my stomach all the time and people call me skinny. It would be nice to be free . :D
Maybe next time I go to Sams club, I'll pick up a bag of chicken breast?

By the way, how exactly will eating more protein help me lose stomach weight?

If you will exercise stomach muscles (forgot how they are called in english), then they will hide fat.

actually thats not true chipset. no matter how many muscle exercises you do, if you dont do cardio, all your new muscles will be hidden behind the fat you didn't burn. most of us who are reasonably active have six packs--but they're hidden by a pillow of fat!

and yes chaos, whey protein is a great idea. my mom recently bought a bag from costco. it's actually quite delicious in milk and in shakes--it tastes like a dessert and it's good workout food (i think one scoop is 140 calories with tons of protein). and chicken is a good idea. of course, don't give up your tofu, beans, and nuts. supplement what you already eat with more chicken and stuff. and get going on the cardio + muscle reps.

Are you smart,jimbob?

I saw a large bottle (about 1ft in diametre) of Whey Protein. That's quite intimidating; my friend actually recommended to me whey protein and when I try to buy it, my dad says its for bodybuilders only. Maybe I'll try to find a smaller box so I can try it out first, and if it really is as good and delicious as it seems, then I may consume large amounts at once :)

I'll try to convince my parents on letting me try chicken. Its been brought up before, but it usually ends up with me saying "I was just kidding" :p.

Wow :( I knew a family where members weren't only vegeterians themselves but also fed poor cat with salads :(

Yeah, thats kind of sad.

FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE PEOPLE DO RESEARCH! Obviously, a lot of people are misled about these kinds of health issues, and yet they don't even ponder why some of these things work, or how it happens exactly. Furthermore, I believe there should be a disclaimer on here that warns against all of these random "tips". Advice from random internet people shouldn't replace that of the doctor or an expert!

I'm not saying that everyone here is misled and unwary; I'm just trying to point out that some are and that it's not wise to try things before doing some relevant research. Thanks. :)

ChaosTheory- hit those weights! Start something beginner level though, everyone's gotta start somewhere, and that's where I started. Learn from someone else in the gym (like a personal trainer) how to do exercises such as the squat, lunge, and deadlift.

BIG MYTH #1: Weight lifting stunts your growth.

WRONG. This can only happen if you do something stupid and damage your ephyseal (spelling) cartilage. Otherwise, as long as you stick to good technique and practice with lighter weights for about 2 years, there's no harm...it can even HELP get that HGH going if you get up in the morning before eating breakfast haha but I just do sprints or conditioning in the morning.

btw chaostheory - I think your dad confused whey protein with creatine. THAT's the dangerous stuff...I will never take that stuff, neither does my advanced bodybuilding friend (as in 250 bp/300 squat kid). Whey protein is essentially 2 grams of sugar and ~20 grams of protein. As long as you only take it after workouts ( I assume max 4 times a week) AND NOT ANY OTHER TIME, you won't get cancer like a lot of these "gym weenies" lol.

mr_chipset - abdominals?

chaos theory - HAND GRIPS. I did one for about 10 minutes for 4 weeks and got excellent muscle toning on my forearms, and my grip (which is the main focus of the hand grip) dramatically increased in srtength.

okay, I have officially started working out. 20 mins on the tredmil then a whole lot of weight lifting. Then I ride my bike for half an hour. Push ups and all those other things. This is my thrid day and it's going well.
so, what am I doing wrong?

(In my previous post: I weigh 170 lbs and stand at 5'7'') anyway, what weight should I aim for?

Wow, thanks guys! It looks like I'm going to start working out and eating whey protein and more protein in general.

Its great that you've started working out; keep at it, hopefully I can too. I believe the "Ideal" weight for 15 years old and 5' 7" is from 130s - low 150s.

How do you do handgrips blood?

What you're doing wrong smoking, tupac hatin stuck-on-1700, is that you have to give at least a day of rest between workouts. Only thing that you can do on consecutive days is cardio/non-weights conditioning.

chaostheory- just buy a hand grip from a modell's/sports authority/dick's/ any store with "physical" stuff....then just squeeze away! It will be hard at first, so do as much as you can in one sitting with each hand. It might be to your benefit to try a static hold for as long as possible to get those forearms taut (as mine became).

^that's also a good exercise for wrist/forearms, that's what we did for forearms when i used to lift for swimming
