"btw chaostheory - I think your dad confused whey protein with creatine. THAT's the dangerous stuff...I will never take that stuff, neither does my advanced bodybuilding friend (as in 250 bp/300 squat kid). Whey protein is essentially 2 grams of sugar and ~20 grams of protein. As long as you only take it after workouts ( I assume max 4 times a week) AND NOT ANY OTHER TIME, you won't get cancer like a lot of these "gym weenies" lol."

creatine is not dangerous. And your friend is an advanced bodybuilder... yet you mention he benches 250 and squats 300.
1) bodybuilders don't chase numbers
2) those numbers aren't advanced anyway

boridi, I'm just basing this off of what I have heard exercise science professors saying in regards to younger kids...this is a forum of mainly teenagers you know. Some senior in my school told the kids in the gym locker room that he was ****ing blood and he had just started taking creatine...take that for what it's worth, he probably overdid it, which is what a lot of kids do.

And you're saying a 16 year old who wants only to be good at his three favorite sports (I'm the one doing the caring for numbers here rofl) with a 250 bench press is not "advanced" enough (I'm not even talking 1RM here) . Forgive me, I did not know that a 400 bench press by age 13 was needed to be considered "advanced".

I might have misused the term, he's just an amateur (as in not a professional) weightlifter. Last time I checked, lifting weights is still "building" your "body", so technically if you lift weights you are a "bodybuilder"

(In my previous post: I weigh 170 lbs and stand at 5'7'') anyway, what weight should I aim for?

First off If you're not sore you're doing something wrong, why, because your definetly not in shape. So your muscle should be hurting if not you're not doing enough. I fyou tell me exactly what you're doing, like number of reps, types of weights, etc I can help you better. And like I've said before the treadmill is a waste of time.

I am feeling really sore. I can barely lift my arms. But I was wondering if there is something else I slould be doing-or something I shouldn't.
I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing- it's not like a routine or anything; I spend one hour in the gym and do whatever I feel like doing at the time. I life weights (10/12/15 kg) and I use those bikes for like 10 minutes...The tredmill takes up most of the time. Why do you think that the tredmill is a waste of time?- it seems to work for me.

Stuck on 1700, I consider it a waste of time but either way you need the cardio so keep it up.

I would recommend.
Running a mile on the threadmill
Doing a stair climber
Then 15 sets of curls, bench press, dead lifts
Later 600 situps
and 100 pushups
Lastly 100meters full speed on the tradmill.
