I just came back from an Overnight Stay at URochester + the Spring Open House. I am quite impressed. Too tired to write much now but Ill get back to this tmrw w/ more details. In the meantime if anyone has questions for me, maybe I can help answer.

UR is an awesome school....largely because of the PEOPLE.
Intelligent, Funny, and extraordinarily Friendly students. Everyone had somethign to rave about when I told them I was considering UR - and its not like they're doing it just to bring up the rep of the school: You could see that they were really passionate about the place and it really showed on their faces. The profs i met with so far were kinda dull but I only met one lol. Admissions people - really cool, really connected w/ the students - especially if u talked to the one who was in charge of admitting the students in your area. wah tired, more tmrw lol.

We also just got back from a visit at UR. I have to say I was not prepared to be so impressed. It is a gorgeous campus, certainly as pretty as Dartmouth, and every person we met was friendly and approachable. My D is usually pretty reserved about these visits, but the entire way home she had her nose in the Journal of Undergraduate Research, and made a comment like, this place fits. It seems like a really wonderful school.

I got back from my spring open house visit this monday. it was awesome. the campus itself is so beautiful and i could tell that i would be able to spend 4, even 8 years at the campus--which i hope to do (UR + URSMD).
the campus is so spacious too. i haven't had a chance to visit the athletic facilities, but the football and track fields are so well maintained, and i would think the others are too. everyone i met was kind, friendly, everything. the professors i did talk to were all so kind and wanted to continue talking to me if we had more time. this physics professor i talked to was awesome. she spoke with a passion for the school and everything. some of the students loved the school and you could tell as mentioned already. all in all, it's a beautiful place...idk about the others, but the only thing that may have been a bit boring was the dean's speech, do u agree? lol...he seriously kept going on and on when 2 sentences would have been enough. my uncle who can withstand boring lectures started falling asleep to this one lol...but then again, the seats were really comfy and it was morning...yeah, anyone have any specific questions? - and to behappy99, i would definitely not transfer...

The Dean was giving a speech about UR's mission as a university that fosters education and the desire to learn as opposed to a university that tells you what to do and what to learn... I guess he was just really really really obsessive about it haha, not a bad thing I guess....He just needs to stop pausing so much in his speeches =P

I met with a student who was planning on majoring in Neuroscience too - he gave me alot of useful information for when I get on campus (like what courses to sign up for ,which oens to avoid haha). He happened to be pretty good at Chemistry. His roommate was a math genius and a juggler (though kinda weird, he was in his underwear when I met him lol). I met a chemistry and computer science genius too - he did barely any work because he understood it all so well lol. He and his girlfriend took us(myfriend and I) around to their academic departments and to the good food spots. We talked a little about our ambitions and about the interesting people on our floor lol.

While we were there, the hall we were in (Susan B Anthony) was having an informal soccer event where everyone in the hall was invited to come out and play soccer on the field - just for fun on the track n field just outside of the hall.

We were introduced to the Rush Rhees Library (the landmark of UR, nicked the Nipple of Knowledge because of its shape). If anyone's seen pictures of the Rush Rhees Library, they'd know what I mean when I say that it was BEAUTIFUL. Very classy =P. there was a handy Corner store nearby - which is open till 1AM selling stuff like toothbrushes, frozen food, snacks, drinks, batteries, etc. I forgot my toothbrush and I bought one there along with a few snacks ^^

The Wilsons Common and the Academic Quad were both bustling with student activity with students on the lawn just laying around n chatting or palying frisbee, football n what. I saw several professors laying on the grass reading and chatting with students. The Wilsons common had a neat arcade (and DDR! for those of us who know what that is).

Weather - The weather when we were up there was absolutely beautiful. Clear blue skies and shining sun with an occasional breeze. It actually kinda hot (it was pretty damn sunny) - but we were carrying alot of bags so we were tired lol.

indoors and especially in the tunnels - it was nice and warm....actually the tunnels were pretty damn steamy lol. so no worries about the cold.

If you took AP Chemistry, you should just skip freshman chemistry - its useless, its more of a course for people who havent had any college-level chemistry yet, though you might wanna just skip 1st semester and come in 2nd semester for the harder stuff.

Avoid the Math 170 track at all costs unless you feel like doing LOTS of homework. Stay on the Math 160 or math 140 tracks.

BCS 110 is an interesting intro course to take if you wanna explore neuroscience/Brain Cognitive Sciences.

Physics at all levels can be tough as hell, the easiest Physics track is already engineering level, up from there - forget about it lol.

yeah. definetly skip first year of chem if you can get away with it. everyone I met there agreed on that. apparently, religions classes taught by the dean are amazing becuse he's an amazing speaker (which is definetly true... when he spoke at orientation, he blew me away, even though, in theory, i realized he was saying the same things in 3-4 different ways).

Thank you very much for the beautiful photos. I went to visit the campus as well, but I didn't get to stay long enough to savor the beauty of the campus/city.

The girl on the left is Jess, the guy next to her is Adam (the chem genius)

Me eating, and Victor drinking soda. Jess (our Jess from NYC) is takin the pic.

Good to meet u Diamond =) Whats your name and are you going to be an international student? Glad u guys liked the pics, i was limited by Flickr's space tho but I hope it painted a general picture of the campus and the city.

I'd say the reported 10% asian population on campus is pretty accurate. I saw a decent number of asians, obviously in many different grades - but there were quite a few asians on campus yea. But in terms of diversity, if it wasnt white - it was asian, and that was it lol. A few blacks here, a few indians here and there but that was it =/

I am glad that you enjoyed your visit. However I would recommend that you take Chem131 because the professor is absolutely amazing (Prof. Krugh) but that is just my opinion. The chem132 professor is also very good.
Plus, if you take Chem131 you might have me as a TA!

But yes, do not take the 170 series... You get more credit for APs if you take the 160 series anyways...
I am in Physics123 right now (modern physics) and although the first test was pretty easy, the past test was impossible... The physics department is pretty tough here (they want to keep up their reputation)

yeah, about the diversity, you'll be seeing quite a few more indians this year, just from CC :)
someone recommended to skip intro to chem? what do u think about that? i have only a 3 on the exam.

being a physics major would be really really hard eh? like, harder than bme, business, chem? i'm trying to narrow down my list, cause the physics professor at the soc told me the department would pay for medical school plus give me a stipend if i did the md/phd program with them...but someone also said that every department does that?

i thought u can just skip freshman chem...according to awakien, oh, he may be saying that if u had the option to skip...yeah, so how are the business classes at UR? would that basically be economics classes? how are they?

Awakien: Your visit report is very helpful to this Mom who has not seen the campus. Thanks for the pics:) In your travels, did you notice if students have small refrigerators, microwaves, coffee pots,TV's,their own desk chairs- in their rooms?
