<p>I use Amazon frequently, so I was wondering how it worked. Do you order for the items to be shipped to your mailbox? If so, do you just go and pick it up from where you get your mail? Do they open the box?</p>
<p>For all packages you have them shipped to your regular mailing address, and you’ll receive an email saying you have a package. Then you go pick it up from whatever mail station is associated with your housing area. And no, they don’t open the box because that would be a federal offense 
I always received my amazon shipments fairly quickly, but it always helps to give the full (9-digit) zip code on your mail…it will get there sooner.</p>

<p>How long does it usually take for the UVA mail staff to email you? According to UPS shipment tracker, my package was delivered this morning, but I still haven’t gotten an email. Does it normally take over a day?</p>
<p>If you know it was delivered I imagine you could go get it but I would think you already would have received an email! I had to FedEx something to my daughter and it arrived Friday morning and she had an email within an hour.</p>
<p>It depends what time of day – if it comes in too late it won’t get emailed until the next day, and on weekends you don’t get emails either since the mail rooms are only open during the week (or at least Newcomb mail room is that way).</p>
<p>Well it was delivered around 10:30AM Monday morning, and I still haven’t gotten an email, so I’m thinking that I’m just going to email the mail people and see what’s up.</p>
<p>I imagine that mail services is handling pretty large loads of deliveries at the beginning of the year. I’m sure they want to get the packages out of their facilities as soon as possible. :)</p>
<p>As an FYI - the Amazon Prime service is good for 1 year…so keep track of when you sign up so you do not get hit with the renewal fee in a year! :)</p>
<p>Does anyone know if the on campus mail stations are run by USPS or by UVA itself? Is there good accountability for packages in particular? TIA.</p>
