AMC 10/12/A/B 2013 Discussion Thread

Pretty sure I got 10 right and that’s it (omitted the rest). Since I didn’t study at all, I’m reasonably happy with this. I’ll probably study a little between now and the 12B to try to make AIME.

I thought you weren’t allowed to take the 12A and 12B in the same year?

hola guys, lets discuss amc answers i rlly need to know if i got a good grade on this. evrybody got the first one? it was easy i did it in a sec. the answer was 5 prety sure. the one i got stuck on was the one where it askd to find the area of the union of the two triangles reflected on y = 8 i didn’t know how to do that skipped it. the hardest was prolly last one. find the intersections of all the 20 diagonals of an octagon or smth. and numba 23 was freakin circle geometry lyk i don’t even know how to do that. guys should all remember da formula for area of triangle. and the one where it asked to find the days in a year that two ppl meet (they meet very other 3 days, 4 days, and 5 dayz was easy. anybody? lotsa my friends who took the test already told me the answers for most of theem and i told summa my frienndz too lmaaooo we gonna own

@hue: Is that true? Last year, I took both the 10A and 12B; is there some rule against taking both 12 tests?

^You’re allowed to take 10A/12B or 12A/10B in the same year, just not both A tests or both B tests.

^ What about both 10 or 12 tests?

^ That’s allowed. I was actually thinking of doing that this year with the 10 but instead decided just to take the B test (that’s the only one my school offers).

Oh, you took the 10A I guess. Oops. I so wish I could take the 12B. I studied an average of 1hr per night every other night for 3 weeks for this. I doubt I scored above an 80, though I got above 100 a few times in practice. Sigh.

took 10a today…

Who has the answers? I have proofs and I would really want to check my answers!!!

Look at : Q. AMC 10/12 #11. Can a student take both contests?

It says:

“A 10th grader or below can take the AMC 10 A and the AMC 10 B
A 10th grader or below can take the AMC 10 A and the AMC 12 B
A 10th grader or below can take the AMC 12 A and the AMC 10 B
A 10th grader or below can take the AMC 12 A and the AMC 12 B
An 11th or 12th grader can take the AMC 12 A and the AMC 12 B”

Soooo…I think you can take both A and B.

Could AMCDirector confirm this?

I just took AMC 10A. I did really bad. I’m sure that I got at least 15 questions right, 5 wrong & 5 omits. So my least would be 97.5. But if I got the problems I guessed on right, then I think I got around 115.5 ~ 127.5.

I answered nine questions. :D

@antwanmon: Thanks for the link/citation! I was worried for a moment.

can someone pm me the answers

got the first 15, guessed on last 10, can confirm at least 1-2 right from that, hopefully it’ll be a few more…

lols if i get higher than my last year amc12 after not studying at all

Fell short of my goal by a good amount. 19 right or about a 121.5. I suppose there’s always the 12 B

What did you guys make of the difficulty?

seemed to be average in difficulty, i’d say a cutoff of ~95 would be right.

then again, i didn’t get to last 5 problems and i suck.

I agree with Harvey. I estimate the cutoff to be 94.5 (not 95 since that’s not possible I don’t think).

Hey guys, i was wondering how i should prepare for AMC 10B (I got around ~90 today T-T)
I have the first AOPS book, but should I use it? (Downside is that it has unnecessary stuff like logarithms which i don’t want to learn yet) Or should I do more old AMC tests?
