We are having the AMC 10 and 12 Test tommorow at my school tomorow. Does anybody who has taken the AMC 10 test before know what it covers? Does it have stuff on calculus or it just pre calc?

I am pretty sure it is only up to pre-calc. However, don't let this fool you... some of the questions are REALLY hard. Good Luck tomorrow! I'm taking the AMC 12s tomorrow.

I am taking the AMC10!
yessss

Posts: 148 I am pretty sure it is only up to pre-calc. However, don't let this fool you... some of the questions are REALLY hard. Good Luck tomorrow! I'm taking the AMC 12s tomorrow.

By hard do you mean the questions are going to be really tricky?

Also is there geometry in it?

Also is there geometry on the test

I'm taking the AMC 12 tomorrow. Also, the AMC does not want any discussion of the test until 2 or 3 days after the official test date, so let's try to refrain from talking about specific problems or even test difficulty.

no calculus on it...i took amc 12 last year.

the questions are hard still. im not taking it as a senior this year coz...not much of a point.

I took it earlier this year and I'm taking it tomorrow, I'm in an intensive 9th grade geometry course and could only answer 5 questions, hope that helps.

Yes, even AMC 12 stops at pre-calc, so 10 shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry filletwho, I didn't know that. I haven't taken the test before, so I was kinda clueless

Don't worry about it, there's nothing wrong with this thread...it's just that after people have taken the test, the AMC doesn't want discussions. Btw, if you want to prepare for the AMC, www.artofproblemsolving.com is a great site.

Taking the 12. My BC teacher is making us. :/

I took it last year too, I think. I don't remember much other than being frustrated and deciding to sleep for the last half hour or so instead.

My calculus teacher is kind of mad at me for not taking it. I'd rather go to two classes than take a 2 hour math test, and spend most of it staring at the ceiling. I took it last year, and it didn't matter, so why should I waste my time and take it again? It's not like it's manditory, or at least he never said it was. And, it should never be considered mandatory because it doesn't count for an actual grade. He tried to con me into taking it by telling me that I was the only one not taking it. Pssh... like I care.

whoa o_o the AMC10 had pre-calc on it? I totally don't remember that..
and the AMC12 didn't even seem to have that much that "required" trig/precalc knowledge

and cowtipper, it's pretty much just for the AIME slot so you can put one more thing on an application.. (or if you are really a math person, so you can put USAMO on your list...) but if you are a senior, yeah, this test is kinda blah

that's how I feel at least .. I guess I want to make AIME again but I think my brain has kind of shut down since I sent out all my college apps.. I really can't think anymore @__@

yeah my calc teacher pre-registered our entire class for the competition. If you want a feel for how hard the test actually is, then check out the previous tests/solutions. Some of the questions are trivial while others are impossible!

^^ Previous questions.

Yeah I just tried some, the questions are really wierd.

anyone know where all of the solutions are...? the 2006 ones have some solutions on the side.

Do you guys know how much you need to get right to move on to the next stage of the proccess

AMC10 goes up to Algebra II, AMC12 goes up to precalc.
You need a 120 on the AMC10 or a 100 on the AMC12 to move to the next level.
You get 6 points for a correct answer, 1.5 points for leaving a question blank, and 0 points for getting it wrong.
All calculators are permitted.
I would totally be in my bed sleeping right now, but we're taking the alternate test :)
