AMC 8 2016

I’ll be taking the AMC 8 for the first time this November 15 and would love to hear any past experiences or talk to people who will be taking it as well. This is my first time taking a specialized math test like this one and I’m a bit nervous. I’m in my freshman year and have taken Algebra I and Geometry in the last two years.

I’d love to hear any tips on where to study from and what to study. So far I’ve just been doing problems from past years but if anyone has a specific study guide or website they wish to share; please do!

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions and past experiences with the test. Best of luck to everyone who will be taking it as well!

The AMC 8 is a middle school competition. How are you taking it in freshman year?

@AnOodleNoodle Noted; I’ll talk to my teacher on Monday. I’m probably confused but I’ll ask and see. Thank you for telling me! :stuck_out_tongue:

@StudiousHPC You cannot take the AMC8 officially. You can take the AMC10 or 12, but those are not offered until February.

The AoPS Introductory and Intermediate-level series in algebra, geometry, number theory, and counting/probability are great resources for preparation.

Just spoke to my teacher and she said she made a mistake. I’ll actually be taking the AMC 10 in February. Thank you!

AMC 10 is statistically as hard as getting an 800 on sat 2 math. Interpret that as you will.
