AMC Competitions

Hi All,

I'm just curious how helpful the following are in attaining admission to Harvard:

AMC 8 Perfect Score

AMC 10 Perfect Score

AMC 12 Perfect Score

Thanks!

I hope you realize how hard it is to score a perfect on the AMC 10 or 12. On the AMC 12 a total of 5 people last year in the nation got a perfect score.

Doing well enough to qualify for AIME (score of 100 on AMC 12 and 120 on AMC 10) will probably help a bit for college admissions, but making it to USAMO a greater accomplishment and is definitely something that may help chances at admissions.

Can’t really say anything about the AMC 8; don’t know much about it.

Edit: Since I was interested in whether you do have some kind of crazy math background, I looked at some of your previous posts. That is impressive… Feel free to disregard the entire beginning of my post (lol), and nice job on the AMCs!

AMC 8 actually counts for nothing because middle school doesn’t matter in college admissions academic-wise.

Good scores on AMC10/12 and AIME are always worth sending in.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I guess I’m asking if it’s a big deal to have a perfect score on AMC 10/12…

do you have a perfect score?

On 8 and 10, yes. I don’t know my 12 score yet for this year, though…

Wow! That’s pretty damn amazing. I just took 12 this morning. It wasn’t pretty. Actually, it was haha…I bubbled in a smiley face.

That’s a lot of Asians?

Haha, I wouldn’t say that race matters. It’s about mathematical knowledge. :)

if you’re not ■■■■■■■■, which i find hard to believe, then you should know that you’re smart enough to get into harvard.

OR you’re looking for an ego boost.

I’m not ■■■■■■■■. I have better things to do with my time.

If you really care, you could find my name online. I’m not looking for an ego boost either- I know of several winners who were rejected to their top choice schools, so I’m curious how much it actually helps.

A perfect score is a great achievement, if that’s what you wanted to hear. :)

Here comes the bubble burster: but getting a perfect score doesn’t mean that much. Making USAMO, IMO and going through that whole sequence is what matters. The kids that make it to IMO don’t match the perfect scorers on the AMC. Even idiots like me can get ~130. :P

I lol’ed.

I think aiming for USAMO/MOP is perhaps better in the long run, but u have great potential. Keep up the good work
