AMC / my stats - Columbia SEAS

Hi, i'm planning on early decisioning to Columbia SEAS next year and was wondering if putting down that I got a 96 on the AMC 12 and 5th out of all Freshman/Sophmore's my Sophmore year on the AMC 10, would be of any help to my application? Or... is 96 horrible, considering I didn't even get to AIME?

Can anyone also tell me if I seem like a possible candidate for acceptance at Columbia SEAS?

Also, so far my SAT2's are as follows:
Math2c: 800
Physics: 710 (prob retake? any suggestions?)

SATI:
Math: 740
Verbal: 670
Writing: 590, 8essay. (I got a 700 on the PSAT Writing, so something went wrong that day, and I prob can do better)

Main E.C.'s:
Piano - 11yrs, making a CD, recieved awards for auditions
Math Team - Soph/Jr/ Will be Senior year
Science League (sophmore: chemistry)(junior: physics)
Debate: Soph,Jr, will be senior year. (JV beginning of Sophmore, Varsity by end of Sophmore year. So, roughly 1.5yrs of varsity debate, so far. Hopefully captain next year)

GPA: Not sure, our school does it out of 5.0 scale, but you can get a 6.0 if you take honors/AP and get an A. I screwed up so badly freshman year, that I have a 4.9gpa according to our scale. I'm top 25%

AP's Jr. Year:
Physics B
USH AP

Next year's AP schedule:
Economy
Pshycology
Calc BC
Physics C

*Oh yeah and i'm an American born Chinese.

and I got accepted into an engineering program for Highschool, with about 19 other kids to take a set schedule of certain courses during my highschool years, to learn specifically about engineering.

and hopefully doing an intern this summer, researching and and helping develop a computer program at Marist college.

I'm most likely appliyng for Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

Thanks a lot, for any help.

96 is not a bad score, but mentioning it would not help your application, and might disadvantage you given that AIME, USAMO, and even IMO qualifiers may also apply. Mentioning that you have taken the AMC exams can indicate your interest in math (and scoring a 96 certainly places you well above most non-mathematically inclined students), but I wouldn't give the specific score unless it's requested.

That said, I know a girl who was accepted to MIT this year with a mid-90s AMC score (and MIT specifically requests it on the app.) Obviously, there are many other factors, and you seem a reasonable candidate otherwise.

lol your SAT I and EC stats look awfully alot like mine (not to mention the major you are applying for)

btw what would be a good AIME score to put on the app? I havnt gottem my score back yet.. but I think I got a 5 or 6 on it

AMC 96 for engineering major + Asian is weak, as is Physics 710...

But your app as a whole isn't too bad...

Are you in the top 10% of you class? If not, do you go to a really well known/competitive high school?

No, well I dont know how highly ranked my highschool would be. It's a public suburb Highschool in North Jersey, Bergan County. It's ranked 27th on this site "<a href="http://www.psk12.com/rating/USthreeRsphp/STATE_NJ_level_High_CountyID_0.html">http://www.psk12.com/rating/USthreeRsphp/STATE_NJ_level_High_CountyID_0.html</a>" when I googled High school rankings for NJ. :( guess my chances are shot?

As for Physics, yeah I'm planning on retaking. What are the typical stats of a SEAS ED applicant?

*Also, would it be beneficial to take a third SAT2? I'm thinking USH, since I recently took the AP exam, and know the stuff pretty well? Would this give me a more "well roundeness," considering most of my application is very math/science oriented?

Not sure about ED, but typical admits have around 1470ish SAT and are well into the top 10% of their graduating class. 50% acceptance rate for SEAS ED, but don't let that mislead you too much. And I don't think the adcoms would mind if you're math/science lopsided. If you plan on retaking tests, I would consider doing the SAT I again, since you have the most room for improvement there. 710 SAT II physics is fine IMO; retaking that and not the SAT I would look kind of weird on the application if I read it.
